Thai Inheritance Tax - foreign assets

There's not many posts about Thai IHT on here.  I note that thai IHT was only introduced 10 years ago.  And tax rates are low at 5%, 10% compared to say UK at 40%.  And there's a high starting threshold value (100m baht).

Maybe its only older folk with assets that think about IHT.

Anyway after googling it seems that:

1. Thai IHT is paid by the person inheriting.  Unlike UK where its paid by the executor of your will.  A key difference.

2. Thai IHT applies to most assets such as property, investments etc.  Worldwide assets.....

3. So for expats like me, tax-resident in thailand, if I will assets to a thai-resident, then that person is liable to thai IHT. But only if above 100m, which is unlikely.

4.  But if I will to non-thai resident there is no thai IHT to pay.   This, in my case, is what my plan is.  Will to my UK based children.

So that seems like good news from my viewpoint.

For those who want to will to thai residents, thai IHT applies, but at quite low rates and with high thresholds.

UK IHT is a different kettle of fish.  But as a non-uk tax resident for 10+ years my estate is liable to UK IHT only on UK assets, but not on foreign assets. 

Nothing to do with who inherits my assets.  No longer to do with one's domicile, its based on tax-residency from 2025.

My plan is therefore to minimize UK assets.

Anyone think about this ?
