I will arrive in Thailand on October 11 and will be staying for 3 months. I plan to do a lot of golfing. My plan is to make use of the golf societies to simplify tee times, travel, as well as slightly reduced rates and friendly competition.

I will be staying in Jomtien as I've done the Central Pattaya thing and for such a long stay I'm looking for something more laid back.

Does anyone have a favorite society or other recommendations? Thanks in adavnce.

Travellers Rest, Soi Lengkee, play 6 days a week.

Other groups too for variation.

As you will be Jomtien based, I suggest one there. Getting to and from central Pattaya can be a pita, especially coming back after the game.

I've not used any in Jomtien but Frasers (too early for me and too bureaucratic from what I hear). Tara Court GC are based in O'Garas (Pratumnak) I think. There is also a newish one based in the sports bar that is below the gym on Beach Road. Much more choice in Pattaya central.

One more for Travellers most of the guys there play in the comp but you don’t have to, as already said six days a week Sunday off.

if you want a more relaxed game I’d recommend Witherspoons who at the moment are just playing Mon, We & Fri, no comp just a  friendly game and try to enjoy your own brand of golf, without being judged. 

Thanks, everyone for your thoughts. All valid and good information. I'm looking forward to figuring it out and it seems there are plenty of options to find something that works for me. I may, perhaps, just pick and choose different groups on different days based on where they are playing, convenience, etc. Cheers!

I'm also looking to play golf when I'm coming to Pattaya in November. Looked at the schedule on the travellers website. I couldn't find any info about transportation. How does it work? Also, is it possible to rent clubs? I'm looking to play 3-4 rounds and don't think I will bother bringing my own clubs.

Yes you can rent clubs with Travellers.

They provide transport to and from the courses. Think it's 300 baht. About 8 people to a mini van.

Great society with players from all over the world.

 

 

Golden ferret golf society in New plaza is very organised, does great trips every day and fantastic food in restaurant.

I arrive November 29th for a few weeks and that always has been my go to place. You can store clubs upstairs for the duration of your stay. I am sure they have a website but definetly a FB page with info. Enjoy

I’m looking for some mixed ages since I’m 41. Are the golf society mainly cater the 60+ that I can see in most FB-updates. 
 

Saw that Harry’s also got a society mainly for Scandinavians. Any experiences? 
 

I have no problem at all to hang around and play with those who are older than me. But I do like som mix. 
 

 

Honestly, learning a bit of Thai is always a good idea. Even basic phrases like “sawasdee krub,” “khop khun krub,” and numbers go a long way.From my experience, most Thai people  including bar girls actually appreciate the effort, even if your Thai is broken. They won’t expect foreigners to speak perfectly. If anything, they usually smile or laugh with you, not at you. It’s more playful than disrespectful.And yes, knowing basic Thai does help in day-to-day interactions: ordering food, dealing with bike rentals, directions, prices, etc. Just don’t overthink it , speak whatever you can, keep it simple, and enjoy. Thais generally value politeness more than perfect grammar. 😊

They are a mixed bag

Reality is most young blokes in Pattaya ain't looking at getting out of bed to play golf so you are gonna find it will be blokes 50 plus mainly

Bigger issue with it for me is finding one where you feel comfortable with the people there 

Some are clique based some are too big and some are ethnic central 

Issue is finding one that you feel comfortable with the people there either that or you are sucking it for 8-10 hours with strangers you don't like

Witherspoons is a good relaxed group. Golden Ferret is good too, but there is one condescending English prick that helps the owner out sometimes. I stopped playing with them as I’ll let one comment slip, but a second would get me in trouble and him laying on the green. The other golfers in that group are good people though. 

But will I have any problem playing as a solo golfer if I choose not to play with a society? I do have some courses I need to play like Siam and Chee chan. 
 

The social part is of course a bonus. But as you say, to be stuck with strangers I don’t like for hours isn’t really what I want.

I usually call Pattaya country club in the mornings and ask for an afternoon tee time and play solo. I take a Bolt to and from the course. I book the bolt while on the 16th or 17th hole. Sometimes the bolt take 30-40 minutes to arrive. By the time I’m done golfing and showering my bolt is usually waiting for me. It’s about 300-350 baht one way.

golfing solo also helps with my concentration and it getting stuck with a prick.

Less people on the course in the afternoon? And no problem playing 18 holes before its getting dark?

Yes, less people on the course and no problem finishing before the sun goes down.

Sorry bit late posting this...I've played with i-rovers society a few times and always had a good time. The lads I had been grouped with were all easy going and good fun. For anyone staying close to LK metro, it's a handy bar to get to and the golf days are well organized...they do good food too.

Regarding your comment about the Golden Ferret, I agree entirely. Lovely Aussie dude who runs the golf - very welcoming. However the English/Liverpool dude who ‘helps’ and plays every day was also the reason I didn’t go back. Shame, as the Ferret is a great restaurant and golf society.
