I plan to offer a 3 nights stay, with breakfast, to someone who turns 65 this December (early december). I am looking for some 5 star, but excluding the extra-luxury (too expensive). Also not looking for small, boutique style ones.

I have been reading some reviews about Conrad, about Eastin Sathorn, and about Crowne Plaza Lumphini, among others, and i cant come to a conclusion about whcih one to chose.

Any advice (open to other options too)?  Some preferences (not requirements): very good breakfast, modern style rooms and bathrooms, near BTS or MRT.

Thank you

I haven't stayed there myself, but Hyatt Regency seems to fit these criteria perfectly. Rooms starts at 4760 baht when I just did a search on some random dates, and that is for a room of 35m2, so a decent size. Direct access to Nana BTS.

I stayed at The Continent hotel Sukhumvit last year in the Panorama room. It's very cool rooms, but maybe not quite the Hyatt Regency breakfast level. The restaurant on the top floor is pretty nice though with good food. It also have convenient access to the Asok BTS station and the Asok/Sukhumvit MRT.

Pullman Bangkok hotel G. 3 nights will cost you around 12k Baht in december. Nice rooftop bar with a view to the river. Not far from the skytrain. Walking distance to Maha Nakhon for an even better view.

Best would be if you give us a clue about the budget you have in mind.

From the hotels quoted so far, Pullman Bangkok hotel G is the only one i have stayed in and, to be honest, i did not like that much. It was maybe 2 years ago and details are already not too present, but our opinion (me and my gf) was to not repeat. But thanks for the suggestion.

About the budget, if i recall correctly, Conrad was asking something around 17.000 for the 3 nights, with breakfast (some kind of promotion, because the guest will be 65, or because it was 3 nights, i dont remember well). So, i would say not too much more.

I can give you some of my personal experiences on IHG properties in Bangkok

Crowne Plaza Lumpini was rather dated last time I stayed there and I would class it as a 4 star at best. Apparently it was renovated in late 2024, so it is going to be bette than my last stay.

Intercontinental Sukhumvit is less than 2 years old. The rooms are nice, but the soundproofing is garbage and you hear the skytrain through the windows. I stayed once, and never again.

For luxury, the Kimpton Maa Lai is hard to beat.

My go to is Staybridge Suites Sukhumvit 24. I have spent over 50 nights in there this year. I always get the one bedroom suite, which is like a condo. Has a golf simulator (not in service since the quake), and has a Japanese Onsen which is quite nice. The breakfast buffet is about a 6 out of 10. The beds here are exceptional for me with my back problems, and I just did a 40 night stay there - and slept so well that I asked the front desk what mattress it was and ordered one which arrived at my home in 3 days.

I used to stay at the Intercontinental near Central World prior to the rooms being renovated. They were dated, but the place was truly 5 star. I haven't been there since the renos, but I would imagine it is exceptional.

The Hyatt Regency is my "go to" property in Bangkok.  I don't know how "budget friendly" it is, but I nearly always pay the cash rate instead of using Hyatt points.

I suggested a friend stay there, and now it's his "go to" in Bangkok, as well.

I think the breakfast is very good, but it might be a bit pricey if it isn't built into your room rate.  If you're a pancake/waffle/french toast lover, they cook them up to order for you.  It sounds like a small thing, but a cooked-to-order waffle is so much better than one that has been sitting on a buffet for a while.  Also cook-to-order egg station (which I sadly don't take full advantage of).  I'm pretty simple.....if they have moo ping, I'm happy and will devour skewer after skewer.

As noted, it is attached to the Nana BTS station (go up an escalator and it's a short walk).

My tip: consider getting a room with lounge access.  That will net you free breakfast and access to their lounge that has fantastic food at happy hour - like a little mini buffet with a carving station.  It's typically my dinner when I stay there.

I have stayed at that InterContintental and found it very nice.

Coincidentally, my favorite property is the InterContinental in Pattaya.  A short Bolt to the madness of Pattaya, but a legitimate resort when you want to just relax.

Finally, if you have an AMEX Platinum card, great deals can be found at the Conrad in Bangkok using their Fine hotels and Resorts ("FHR") program.

The Landmark on Sukhumvit Road feels like a perfect pick for this. It's breakfast spread is the best I've ever had, and I've had a few. Rooms are modern; facilities are good; if you care about nightlife then it's right there - but if it's for a quiet stay then there's zero noise to worry about.

I've also stayed at the Sofitel Sukhumvit, albeit a few years back now, and that's also very tidy - but the Landmark pips it on the breakfast front.

What is the joiner fee,please?

I stayed in the Hyatt Regency last month. It meets all of your criteria. It’s right near the action and close to BTS, which is just two stops to some of the big malls with great food options. Breakfast was better in the restaurant vs. lounge. The staff was great. They were totally guest-friendly. I used points. It wasn’t my best redemption.

At the Landmark? They didn't even care that I didn't sign girls in, and I bought two at a time. It was very much an option but they didn't interfere if we walked (or stumbled) straight past.

Sofitel, was none but they were more diligent about sign ins.

I also always stay in The Landmark.

Close to Nana plaza and I never had to put the lady´s ID cards at the reception.

They simply don´t care. Apart from that very clean and you can have fresh towells at any time without wainting too long. Prices are also OK for a hotel like this, allthough it got more expensive since their refurbishing started two years ago

I love the electric curtains.....

Thank you all for your contributions. I am now reduced to 2 options: the Conrad and the Hyatt Regency.. I have contated both .All have been very friendly on their replies.

After all taxes and considerimg what they offered me, Hyatt is around 1300 TBH more expensive than Conrad per night. Conrad has 41 sqm room (Delux King) and Hyatt is 35-37 sqm (king bed).

I will hear more opionions (yours included) for some time, also looking for some reviews (pitty many reviews on youtube look like promotion videos rather than honest reviews) and i will decide soon.

A few random pics from my Hyatt stay earlier this month:

A plate of food from the happy hour - likely irrelevant, because it sounds like you're not getting lounge access, but the pork neck and roast potatoes were excellent; the chicken was pretty good, but not as good.  I love cooked carrots, so loaded up on them:

A breakfast treat - mango and sticky rice pancakes:

The "Donut wall" at the breakfast buffet - didn't try them, but liked the concept

It's probably a stupid question, but do you have any kind of hotel status with either Hilton or Hyatt?

If so, that could push you to one or the other (Conrad is Hilton).

I don't know how far off your trip is, but you could look into getting a co-branded credit card with Hilton that would get you Gold status, which would score you free breakfast.  AMEX Hilton Surpass card has a $150 annual fee, BUT it gets you Gold status (so free breakfast) and a $50 credit for spend at Hilton every quarter, so the net cost is $100 (less if you have Hilton stays the other 3 Qs of the year).

Probably not a great deal, as that $100 would probably buy a number of breakfasts.

I've never bought one, but I have heard that people sell Hyatt Guest of Honor awards on eBay.   That would make you the equivalent of Hyatt Globalist for your stay, which should get you lounge access and free breakfast.  Depending on how many nights you are staying, that could be a better deal/lower price that paying for breakfast.

Thanks, you are right about hotel status, but no, i have not.

Your pics of Hyatt look great, but i have decided for Conrad. They made me a second offer, and i could upgrade for a Premium Room and it will still be less expensive than Hyatt. More space for less money. And, to be honest, i was impressed by both of hotels, equally. For kind of fun, i asked 3 AI engines abiut which one to chose, one said "Conrad", the second said "Hyatt", the rhird said "it depends on many things"... :)

Budget Friendly but we don’t know your budget. I stayed at the Landmark and liked it very much. Then I found the Marriott Marquis Queens Park which has a breakfast that made the Landmark look like a Holiday Inn Express. Have stayed at the Carlton which I found very nice and liked the coffee shop in the lobby, but Marriott Marquis on 22 is my favorite so far…
