There was much talk of cutting this from 60 to 30 days?

Is this still talked about?

Nope. They have other things on the menu, atm. But, of course, TIT, it could change at any time. 

Best you can do is assume it’s going to stay at 60 and if they do change it before your trip get a tourist visa if you’re planning on staying more than the 30 days you get exempt. 

The speculation seems to have died a death since this thread stating it was to be cut to 30 days 5 months ago 

Just watch out for official announcements, they're all that matter

 

 

So basically as for now it remains to be 60 days. Entering Thailand you will get 60 day stamp. This also means that your ticket out- must be within 60 days. Correct ?

Has this ever been enforced? Never had to show an outbound flight in 15 years of traveling and living in Thailand

Yes, it is typically enforced by the airlines.  I sometimes get asked at the airline check in to show an outbound ticket from Thailand (or other countries).  It doesn’t happen every flight, but does happen fairly often.  I personally wouldn’t risk it & take the chance that I could be denied boarding for not having an onward ticket.

If you’re traveling on a round trip itinerary, the airline sees your return and won’t ask if the return is within the allotted time frame.

I travel one-way tickets often within Asia and get asked most times at check in about my flight out of the country I’m going to.  

I just flew back about 48 hours ago and asked about the 30/60 day thing when I was leaving immigration. They confirmed still 60....but with a 45+ day trip planned for November/December and MY track record, expect it to be changed the day before my departure!  555

I always fly on one way tickets, and would estimate that I was asked for my return flight info about 40% of the time in the past, but I have not been asked about it for at least a few years now.

It's not an issue for me, as I always have a return ticket, but like @Btc755, I wouldn't risk it.  There are some threads discussing the options (throwaway ticket; a fake itinerary; fully refundable or changeable ticket that you tweak once you get to Thailand).

Well i have been asled outbound flight in suvarnabhumi years ago, glad i had booked ticket out inside 30 days for another airline

The airline enforces when you start your trip. They have Timatic which tells them maximum non visa stay and they can refuse to board you on leg 1.

i flew one way into bkk in business class and was never asked for visa or onward flight

when flying economy and my return ticket was past the 30 day visa exempt the airline have always asked me for proof of onward travel it pops up automatic on their screen when they go to check you in to the flight. 

the entry immigration at bkk have never once asked me about visa of return flight or any question at all actually

just passport and boarding pass and look at camera
