Change of internet provider in condo

Featured Replies

Hello,

I would like to change the internet provider after the contract expires in my condo, owned by myself.

Can I use the fiber cable and have the new company installing their router?

Reason for change: too slow, instable and most expensive of all providers.

Thank you.

Is this something you've discussed with the Condo management ?

Re: the use of existing infrastructure or installation of new .

My experience with the condo developments I've stayed in ( as a renter ) , is that they all seem to have some exclusivity or restricted arrangements with 1 or 2 chosen providers .

( Apologies if I've misunderstood your question)

You would be best to go to the provider of your choice and speak to them. Sometimes the juristic offices think that they have "power" to control what internet provider is allowed to enter the building (they get a cut from the internet provider for keeping it exclusive to one provider).

Start with the ISP, and work from there. If the juristic office refuses to allow you a provider of your choice, get it in writing, and take it up with the Consumer Protection Board, and NBTC

If it floats, flies or fucks, RENT IT!!!!! "He who hesitates, masturbates"

The provider will be able to tell you if they can provide service to your condo. I've been happy with AIS Fibre.

Yes, you are right, the management has a particular contract with a provider, which has to be used.

It's not right. But that's how it is.

As an owner, you might consider lobbying the committee members . You will possibly find that this has been raised before ,and there might even be a solution.( Or not ) .

Have you looked at 4g/5g mobile options? Even as a backup option when the current connection is bad? That way you would not need to worry about the building management.

Yes, good idea, im  sure, that many would like to choose their provider by themselves and not forced to pay the one from juristic office.

Best to reach out directly to the provider that you picked in the first instance. They can tell you if is possible or that it tied to a Condo deal.

If you ask resident or the condo mgmt they might give you erroneous information.
