Weekend Millionaire or Cheap Charlie for 3 nights?

Featured Replies

So I am going to be in Pattaya for close to 2 weeks in November/December. My hotel of choice isn't available for the first 3 nights. So I am debating. Do I go full baller mode and stay in a really fancy hotel for the 3 nights or do I go to a cheap (or relatively cheap) guest house. For context I typically stay in mid range hotels and have never stayed in a guest house.

Whatever you can afford/ fits your budget.

If your first choice of midrange hotel isn't available, there are many other mid range hotels in Pattaya.

The obvious answer here of course is what fits your budget. But what I have usually experienced with hotels in South East Asia is the budget-mid range hotels are so good I don't feel the need to splurge. The value proposition is never proportional to the price as you head higher on the curve. This is of course a personal opinion. The hotels I have stayed in Pattaya and what I have paid for reference

Grass suites - 800/900b

247 Boutique- 900b

Aqua and One Bay Breeze - 1200b

March hotel - 850b

Ibis - free with points but usually 1000b

I liked all these hotels and wouldn't mind staying at any of them as I feel they all provide what I need at amazing value. As long as a place has an elevator and a decent washroom I am sold.

For starters, there is no need to stay in a guesthouse as the 2/3 star hotels are close to the same price around or under ฿1000 (Vouge, Quba, PPlus etc). How about the Shilat (formerly Centra Life) next door to Areca… ฿1427 in November.

What is your hotel of choice? As much as it will annoy the hotel here is what I would do if you are dead set on that hotel. Book the dates you are in Pattaya in another similar hotel on a "pay at hotel" and "Free Cancelation". Doing the same book the hotel you want for the dates they have available on the same premise. Then keep a watch out for the other 3 dates you have to become available, which they probably will, and book them. You can cancel the other hotel, or change the dates to the three days if needs be. You might also find the hotel you actually want, not only available but cheaper so you cancel your first booking.  Not sure why you would want to slum it in a guest house though for no reason.

I have booked the P Plus for most my trip. I have been there before and whilst it's nothing fancy, the location is really hard to beat. I suppose the thing I was thinking about a guest house is, is it really slumming it or is there value to be had staying in the heart of the action as a lot of them are right on the busy sois.

Showing available on Agoda for the last week November and 1st week December. Just perhaps look at all the other booking sites for the exact days you want and one of them will book it for you. they will all over book by 10% knowing people cancel or no show, so as long as you get there earlier in the day you will get your room.

I can only see twin rooms when I check those dates and from what I have seen of their twin rooms online, the single beds seem a bit small for the purpose I'm travelling to pattaya for....

Agoda and Booking showing that. Hotels.com, Expedia.com for those dates 24th nov to 7th december are showing Studio Double bed. Try those sites and get a booking in and have the guess house as a reserve perhaps

For me I would prefer a similar or slightly down market hotel to the one I had booked for the rest of the stay.

If I had a five star for the first three days I would probably be disappointed with the second hotel.

I have done it the other way though. Twelve nights in the Areca Lodge then three in the Hilton ocean view suite.

I would stay at P plus, an okey hotel for the price. Personal I don't like to stay at guest houses so it's a good alternative.

No need to spend crazy money on a hotel. You will outside most of your time you only use the room to fuck and sleep and chicks don't care where you stay.

That's an absolutely no brainer; what's your price range?

I'm used to Irish hotel prices so anything up to €150 per night would seem reasonable

I personally would just take the twin bed in the same hotel and rather move rooms than move hotels.
Since u already stayed there before, know the layout inside and outside, pros and cons.

Just a suggestion, it's your call anyways.
