Older dudes body odor issues

Featured Replies

We all know that Thai people and women in particular are extremely sensitive towards body odor. I'm significantly overweight and sweat immensely during much of the year. There are few days I don't take at least three showers. Unfortunately I sometimes turn off Thai people because of the sweat odor.

I had an Aide of an elderly neighbor in my building where I live in Manhattan recommend a Japanese soap that is named Mirai. All I can say is that I tried it for myself about 2 years ago and it works wonders. It dries the skin a bit but it is so worth it, especially when I'm in Thailand. The soap was developed for middle-aged and older Japanese men that developed "old man smell". However, it also eliminates offending body odor for people that are not that old.

The only downside is that the pomegranate soap made by Mirai can be quite expensive at $20 a bar on Amazon. I've also used a Chinese clone when the Japanese soap was out of stock. It is a quarter of the price, but it has a medicinal smell and is a bit more drying on the skin. It does work. I also hate that bastard country and do my best not to purchase any of their products.

On a side note if you have any elderly relatives, mostly men, that exhibit old man smell then consider buying this product. I know that I've been in elderly relatives houses in the past and have gasped at the old man smell hitting my nostrils. The caretaker of an elderly relative or friend will certainly thank you to the nth degree.

Don’t waste your time with that, you can get real strong deodorant for people with excessive sweating.  Put some on your forehead and it’ll stop you sweating for a couple of days, for example.

Save your time, money and give this a go.

You smell because you are covered in fungae and bacteria eating your sweet sweat and dead skin and farting. You kill that and you do not smell. The way to do that is this.

Vinegar. Any will do. Probably not premier cru balsamic as that would be needlessly expensive and messy. I tend to you organic apple cider vinegar (with mother) like Braggs, but the clear shit in plastic bottle will do the same job. 10 minutes before you shower, liberally slosh and rub in the vinegar all over and anywhere you might have a smell from. Arm pits, belly button, groin, bellend, arse, back, neck, even hair. Anywhere. All over. I just go all over. Vital part is that you let it sit there for 10 minutes. Needs a good 10 mins to lower the pH of your skin and kill off all the nasties. Then you have a shower as normal (ideally with a good bar of simple organic soap like a 100% Olive Oil bar) and you are done. About 6 month later yo might do it again. You will hardly need to wear deoderant, and if you switch to the crystal salt bar sticks you will never smell again.

You can also add a squirt into your clothes washing if your clothed pong a bit.

Lower the pH - kill the farting and shitting bacteria. Job done.

By the way - young blokes stink way more than old geezers even when they spray all that poison rubbish from Axe etc on themselves to mask it. :D

Question is though for all the smelly fuckers out there - would you be really annoyed or insulted if a bloke you had a beer with turned round to you and said this? Guess most will get all touchy about it.

IMHO bacteria setting into the armpits is what makes sweat stink. a lot of the guy and gals here throw on the same shirt they already sweated in the day before. So bacteria already set in. then when they sweat again the stink is 10 times worse. other factors are medicine people take can come out in sweat. this one affected me. is mixing gym closes with regular clothes when doing laundry. my regular clothes would stink. i now let my gym clothes dry on the balcony and wash them separate

Vinegar is awesome stuff. I once used the Apple cider kind for a few days to kill a skin tag. Heavy use in my household, to clean fruits, floors, and even used for air conditioning unit maintenance.

it does seem counter intuitive because smelly tramps / hobos always invariably have a vinegar smell about them so the last think people would think of would be vinegar as the solution. Many Thai houses ferment their own vinegar for the purposes you state.

Just don't go too extreme with this, I know a guy that follows that Paul Salando guy.

Full carnivore, hasn't eaten anything but steak and eggs, for years.

He also doesn't shower, only uses vinegar.

He fucking stinks... 😂

Very interesting, but I have a completely different experience that now has me asking questions.  I recently went mostly carnivore in my diet and have noticed a significant reduction in body odor.  I have been working outside in the heat lately and will turn my t-shirt into a completely sodden mess.  Extreme perspiration, but with minimal accompanying odor.  I was congratulating myself on finding a reprieve from heavy odor, but maybe I’m deluded from the heat stroke.  I don’t use the vinegar trick, but now I’m going to try it. I do shower regularly though.

Everybody needs skin bacteria. They do a vital job, and I mean vital in the correct sense. They keep parasites and alien bacteria from colonising your skin and if that happens you get all sorts of skin problems, from body odour to open sores, some very serious. The problem comes for a small minority for people for whom either their natural bacteria is for some reason replicating more rapidly than normal or for the very opposite reason eg its  not replicating enough and other bacteria is replacing it.
OP was right , wash/shower a couple of times a day. If it’s really bad see a dermatologist for a skin swab and analysis.

I've seen and smelt guys in passing wearing quick dry type polyester clothing. I'm guilty of wearing them it's hard not to in the intense heat. Unfortunately polyester fabric holds onto odor causing bacteria and traps skin oils which negates all the showers taken. It smells good freshly washed but the funky bacteria is eventually reactivated with sweat and heat. Either religiously wash those items with hot water and vinegar/Oxiclean or wear cotton more often.

Also be mindful of what you consume, foods high in sulfur (garlic and onions), red meat and alcohol increases body odor. I try to counteract my love for garlic and beer by eating more fruits and veggies. My skin smells sweeter when I do and TGs appreciate it.

You can get special washing liquid for that. I changed my shirts for hot climat mostly to running shirts from Decathlon. They do not smell bad.

I only use 100% cotton t-shirts and mostly in light or white color learn when working outside in summer 🌞 that dark color can smell and only wash in 60 degrees not lower

I don’t buy into the “Thai people have a more evolved olfactory system” theory. They might be more likely to mention your odor to you compared to a westerner who may just make gagging faces behind your back.

Just skimming through but holy heck are people recommending bathing in vinegar???

I'd consider weight loss tbh. Less surface area, less sweat, etc.

Agree on the weight loss, but vinegar is quite natural chemical after all. Never heard of it used like proposed here though, but I have an old cat who sometimes makes "mistakes" and that crap kills the stench of the piss. If it works on that, it must do wonders on other odors as well.

Man for real I'm going to back off because it's an area I've luckilly not had issue with so it's dickish of me to judge.

I'd only say to the homies here don't miss the forest through the trees. Sometimes it's just shedding a few pounds.
