I think I fried my printer

DP Gumbypgh

Recommended Posts

I had to print something quickly yesterday so plugged in my Canon BJC 80, after a few movements of the print head the power light went out and would not come back on again. When I looked at the power adapter it is only for 120V. This means that the printer was getting double the voltage that it should.

I now need a new power supply to check if the printer still works and if it doesn't somewhere in Pattaya that can fix it. The printer is more than 10 years old so it may be better to just buy a new one or a used one.

Any suggestions?

Printers are so cheap here that you can buy a new one for 2,000 baht or less. I even bought a new colour laser the other week for only 10,000.

However if you want to check out the power adapter just take it into TuckCom and on the 3rd floor by the stairs you will see a store with lots of power supplies who can help you.

check for a broken capacitor or fuse with a voltage tester, but remember to disconnect one side of them.

Printers are so cheap now, you might as well buy another.

Ok I will just buy a new one it will be cheaper than getting it repaired anyway. Thanks to all for help.

Done this before here in Iraq with printer shipped here from the States. Once it's done it's done. You can buy a new power module for the printer itself, but with that printer I'm sure it's just not worth it.

I had a buddy do that to an HP photo printer, he just needed a new adapter and it worked fine.

I'm amazed any printer is still working after 10 years.

Cheap new inkjets in Tukcom from less than B1,000. You can get a Canon printer/scanner/copier with external ink tanks for about B2,500.

It was portable printer that i only used while traveling on business so I think it was probably only on it second set of ink refills.
