Girlfriend needs Root Canal Treatment + crown

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had a very positive experience of root canal treatment with a dentist in Pattaya. We've just been to see Dr Arpapan Toomchat at a clinic in Naklua. She sounds like she knows what she is talking about but looks so young and I guess there is a risk she will disappoint. Anyway she has looked at my girlfriend's teeth and said she needs root canal treatment to one infected tooth with big cavity followed by a crown. BHT 10,000 for root canal treatment, BHT 8,000 for crown appox.

I wouldn't mind getting a second opinion if anyone has a good recommendation.

Thanks for reading this and your advice appreciated.

it might be expensive but you might try Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. i have not used the dentist there but i get a good feeling about the whole place(at least for a hospital)

take a look at dentistbeach.com. their prices look better. they're located at central festival in pattaya. i get all my work done in mexico and have had numerous crowns, bridges and root canals done. it's not brain surgery. any decent dentist should be able to handle it easily. p.s. i've had a number of things done at bangkok pattaya hosp. and though they do seem very professional my last procedure was with the dermatology dept. and not only was it twice the price as my dermatologist in the u.s i wasn't happy with the results.

There is a Thai clinic on Soi Bukaho, just south of Soi Diana, across the street from 18 Coins bar/hotel. Thai people can get dental work done at very reasonable prices. I had a girl get a cavity drilled and filled there for 200 or 300 baht. You might want to have her check the clinic first.

Thanks very much all for your thoughts and advice. Its a great help.

This time I think we will have to go with the dentist here - as I've limited time before flying out, but all this info will set us in good stead for future trips.

B K dental, also on Soi Buakhoa by LK Metro, does a great job at very good prices. And stands behind his work.

I have heard that Dr. Aree at Pattaya International Hospital - at least I think that is the hospital's name - is very good.

Root Canal Treatment and Crown done. Did it at the below place as didn't have the time to follow up on the recommendations in this thread. The dentist (whose name I'm sorry I don't recall) did a good job - she's young, thai, speaks good english - professional and I'd have no hestiation to recommend her if you are staying in the Naklua area.

Have had 2 lots of indepth dental done in Pattaya...2 different recommended dentists..both disastrous.

Missus used BNH convent rd bkk 3 years ago for some heavy dental...fantastic.

I am now using BNH to fix the Pattaya problems properly.Sure there are some good ones there but I missed them.

Thats the worry with dental work being done in places like Pattaya

There are just too many of them around these days for them ALL to be of a standard we, as farangs would expect

The skeptic in me tends to lean towards most of these places that have the words "world", "centre" or "place " before, or after the word "dental" being nothing more than people trained to use equipment to an acceptible level of competance...........AND NOTHING MORE. No diplomas, certificates etc. Not even a dentist in the "true" meaning of the word.

Optitian (well, "eye centres" really) being the other "profession" springing up everywhere

I would tend to use dental departments of hospitals rather than go to some "store". After all.....you only got one set of teeth (or eyes come to that)

Also...........who, or what is BNH?

I understand the OP has already had the work done. This reply is for future reference.

For any endodontic (root canal) treatment, it is wise to use a specialist (endodontist). The difference in cost of using this specialist is negligible (maybe 5% more) and ensures the procedure is performed competently.

When comparing clinics and dentists for crowns, make sure you compares apples to apples. There are different types of crowns; those that are all porcelain (ceramic) and those that mix metal/ gold. Stay away from the latter; if you must use a gold mix then use the high percentage ones (e.g. 90% gold) as the others can cause gums above the tooth to go black. Not a good look - and not easily fixed. I've heard many a story of people going with the "cheaper" dentist only to find they used the "cheaper" material - which later caused problems.

Chilled, neither shaken or stirred.

To follow on from what you say, i'll give the same caveat on this thread that i'm starting to give on others too.

That is that no matter what you are looking for, whether that be dental work, optical work.........even pharmacies and clinics, make SURE you have done your research first as to the credibility of the place you are looking at. Just because it says "dental" in the title doesnt mean there is a dentist practising there. There are just far too many of them to all be fully qualified bona fide ones for my liking, so recommendation is no bad thing. So make doubly sure to, seek them at and heed them the very least.

Stay at a bad hotel for example, and you get a bad room for a few nights. Go to a bad dental place and................. well you can fill in the blanks

Might be worth taking a trip to Hanoi if need major dental work.

Many Australian trained dentists - super clean - super cheap.

300,000 VND = 17 usd for root canal treatment

filling 100,000 VND (amalgam or plastic) = 5.5 usd

Personally I'd be very dubious of having any dental procedures performed in Vietnam. Though I'm happy to be "enlightened".
