Wonder what folk will have to say about this.  I've a trip booked, will be my first for a few years, and have booked a hotel in pattaya for the duration as well as bkk in case shit starts going wrong there.  

Not worried about buildings collapsing more so if 10% or more of the population suddenly becomes homeless there could be a degree of civil unrest, protests get pretty hot there.  You can call that alarmist if you fancy but it's a real possibility.  Toursit arrivals already down significantly this year and I can't see this helping. 

At least the exchange rate has shifted in my favour I guess. 

Saying that 10% of the population may become homeless, I would call that being alarmist to be honest.

34  buildings in a city of something like 10 million people is a drop in the ocean ,most likely well below  0.1% would be having issues. 

Also would think most affected would probably have family or other options to fall back on for support so dont see mass protests in the streets occuring over it ,especially when it is a natural disaster so there isn't quite the focal point to trigger that level of dissatisfaction.

Personally just seems like your overthinking it a little.

Those 1% of buildings are only the ones that have been deemed structurally unsafe.  The number of buildings that are now practically uninhabitable because of non structural damage to walls, plumbing and electrical will be several times or even an order of magnitude greater.

I don't think myself to be alarmist at all. I'll be in Bangkok next week and I'm almost certain everything will be fine.  I'm still ready to gtfo when things aren't though. Lot of people left Bangkok already.  

I don't think 7 million or more people are going to be homeless due to 34 buildings deemed unsafe.

I could be wrong, of course, there may well be 205,000 people living in each building.

IAW official sources numbers are up by 5.9% which, when talking about 35 million arrival in 2024, is a quit substantial numbers. Care to share your sources for the opposite?

Plus, Pattaya wasn't impacted at all.

If your concerns are that strong, you should think about cancelling your trip.  Nothing we say is likely going to convince you otherwise.

Based on your quoted figure of 7 million. 

So, 50% of the population is female = 3,500,000

20% in age group 20-30 = 700,000

Say, 20% relocate to Pattaya = 140,000

So, if your fears are correct (unfortunately very unlikely),  can you help 140,000 homeless females in some need of an income during your visit? 😀

P.S. For any budding mathematicians or statistic minded BM’s, my figures are provided solely for context and in no way accurately reflect the truth🤣

This post is about bangkok.  As I say I'm not worried, but it's reasonable to be cautious.

Bank of Thailand a good enough source? Not sure what figures you're looking at or if they're actual or projected.  Real numbers are down and TaT expects them to go down another 15% give or take.  You can go and look that up for yourself. This was before the tariffs too. 

It's good for me tbh.  I'm quite happy.

There's been 34 buildings found to be structurally unsafe out of 3375 inspections. That's just over 1% of buildings and a good enough sample size.  If that's consistent across the whole city that's well over 100000 people displaced.  

These are just the buildings that are structurally unsafe.  The number of buildings which are practically uninhabitable is far greater than that.  

How much more is anyone's guess.  10 times is very likely an over estimation.  Three or four times maybe.  

How many people sleeping in parks getting pissed off at Chinese builders does it take to start a riot?

You may be on to something here. The [few] parks are filling up and we all remember the 2008 riots that had Suvarnabhumi closed for weeks. If I wasnt living here I would be deeply concerned over the growing tension between Chinese builders and Thais that has invested in [unfinished] condoes and now roaming the streets homeless. Better check coverage of your travel insurance just in case.

Also, 304 buildings suffered moderate damage but are still habitable.

48 buidings now, expect more is coming
