How to make contact with thai mobile on what's app from uk.

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am very untechnical as you can see and would appreciate any help.  I am in uk, have a mobile, and want to make contact via whats app, as its free, with a thai mobile.  It is 10 digits long and begins with 066....   The lady is expecting my call and it wont be rejected.

I am on whats app for other numbers in uk but non in thailand and can't remember how to set a new number up.

Any  instructions would be very good please, please keep them simple.

Open WhatsApp, click plus sign top right, which opens 'new chat'.

Click  'new contact', enter her details. save.

That's it!

I tried that and entered the thai code (+66) from the drop down menu, then her number, so it reads ' +66 066' etc.  Then it says this number is not on whats app, so I press the 'invite' but this doesn't work, says 'failed to send.'

Remove the zero after the country code.

Perhaps you don't need the leading zero?

You must drop the '0' when calling from overseas..eg +66 xxx xxxx

Tried this so the number dialled is an 11  digit number (the ten digit number less the first 0) now with 66 at the front, so '+66 66 etc' dialled, still says failed to deliver so maybe got the wrong number or some other technical issues preventing call going through.

thanks all for the help, not sure where I go now, will maybe try it on a land line.

You can dial or chat direct if you use the keypad option. I use a linked phone and it has kittens if I add a contact which are then unavailable in WhatsApp. They are available to the "master" phone.

Use the keypad and do not enter the 0 (zero) in the number. That's only cell to cell calls in Thailand.

So +66 6 (or 8 or 9) ######## number. Even though you're using the dialpad as if to voice call you can instead send messages and not call or both.

Once you've done one message the history is sticky and you can go back and forth all day. You don't have to do this manual dial each time.

Have you doubled the 66? Probably just need 1 66

or can you send her an SMS and ask her to add you to WhatsApp?

One other thing for wybers:

They have to have WhatsApp with that phone number as their WhatsApp number. You can't call a Thai or any cell phone with WhatsApp for free

It wasn't clear this girl has WhatsApp on that number.

If you both have it I can assure you she will be better at it than you, so get her to make the first call. Once you have a call the rest are just daisy chaining to the first call.

For best cross platform compatibility use Facebook Messenger. It works on multiple devices (web, apps, iOS, Android) with just a login and password and does voice and video calls well.

When you enter the Thai code from the drop down menu (+66) then put her number in manually, without the 066 and without the first Zero of her actual phone number.

To be clear - her domestic number is 061 123 4567 so from your mobile, remove the zero and add +66 so it will be +66 61 123 4567

Sorry, as someone ask you before, are you sure she have whatsapp? if yes, which number she have on her whatsapp account? (can be different from her actual number)

:Hello1:

If she has it may be simpler for him to ask her to initiate the call. I think initially he has or had the country code twice. +66 and 066.

Should be 9 digits excluding the 0 and starting with 6 8 or 9 for a cell.

On android I save them as +66 12345678 etc in phone contact 1st then they show in Whatsapp.

Maybe try syncing contacts then sync whatsapp & see if they show up
