Intro/Location

I have stayed at the very new MELIA hotel, opened last February 2025, from March 19th to March 23rd 2025, after a one-week stay at Somerset I can compare.

Very easy access to Soi6 (a few minutes by walk).

I discovered the area around (restaurants, shops, regular massages...) and I have been positively impressed, whereas I am used to the LK/Central Pattaya area (Somerser, Amethyst, Hilton) and was not very ready to change.

 

Check-in/Desk team/Guest policy

I arrived around noon from BKK airport, my room was available, and I got immediate access.

Very friendly security and desk team, smily and happy to support.

The hotel looks very family oriented (kids' areas, swimming pool area for kids...). Anyway, this hotel is very guest friendly, I have never had an issue, including different guests the same day. The ID is not requested/mandatory during my stay.

I have never been in a situation where I felt judged, very good point.

I got the following message on their current Guest policy:

The visitor is no additional charge
The hotel will take no responsibility for any joining guest that the guest allows them to entering the room with their consents and permission.

The hotel will also not store any ID of the joiner, however if the guest wishes us to make a photo copy of joiner and give it to them, we are more than happy too.

Additional charge, for breakfast will be charge at normal price for joiner. Unless the guest would like to register the joiner as sharer or accompany guest.

In that case the hotel will scan the visitor passport and attached with the guest profile. Kindly note that there will be full record as normal guest for this step. Breakfast will be included for the second guest depended on how many persons they reserved in the reservation.

Room

I booked a Premium Sea view The Level room, which is currently the best room this hotel is offering as suites are not yet available.

Very nice and well-designed 31 sqm room with king king-size bed and a big sofa and TV I never used.

Not enough place to store your staff in my opinion. This is the trend of most new design hotels: no closed place to store your staff.

Nice view, but no balcony, which can be a deal breaker for smokers. I got some freelance, not happy with this, but I was happy to kiss them later without smelling smoke 😃

The bathroom is nice and functional, including a shower (pressure and temperature are far above standard in town).

No noise issue, neither from outside (2nd road), nor coming from the hallway.

Price: 

I got the room for about 5000 bahts a night, but I could get standard deluxe rooms 27 sqm for less than 3500 bahts a night during my stay.
The price was similar to Somerset and far below Hilton and below Amethyst during my stay.

 

Cleanliness: 

The hotel was less than 1 month open when I stayed there. It is very clean and very well designed. From the lobby/lounge up to the swimming pool area. Rooms and hallways are clean as well.

Asking to refresh your room is very easy, press the green button, always some cleaning staff on the corridor. I can inform I am leaving the room for 1 hour or more. Once back, everything was perfectly managed.

 

Facilities/Swimming pool

The swimming pool area and view are something that can make you consider this hotel. What a place to rest! Maybe the condo which have a view on this space can have a negative impact but you forget this quickly when you sit down.

A very nice bar is proposed and there are several options to sit. Do not know the occupancy level of the hotel during my stay, but I never had any issue finding a nice place to chill around the swimming pool.

I do not try the fitness room (I was used to practicing enough alternative sports daily 😇), but it looks ok.

A large parking lot at the back of the hotel, one girl even parked her scooter here easily.

The lobby is well designed.

The hotel comes with a very nice park in front to join the outstanding beach club (see Lay Beach Club), which is linked with the hotel (only 15% discount on food anyway).

The management team of the hotel informs me that a new hotel building will be opened later next to this park, so between second and Beach Road. At the end, MELIA will represent a large hotel campus.

Breakfast/The Level services

Breakfast was including with room price and is opened from 6:30 to 11:30.

I used it 3 times at 6:30, just back from Walking Street. Very good breakfast buffet. I highlighted to the management that the hot food was not so hot during my stay. But I really apreciate the food before going to bed. Asian options are proposed at this buffet for you and especially your guest.

If not including with your room, I always consider to take it only a few times and explore options outside (a few time in a row, a buffet will be always boring at some time)

I aprreciate The Level premium service during the cocktail time. The private lobby on second floor was still not opened during my stay.

Conclusion

I like the hotel very much and will stay again here for sure if I can get similar prices.

In my hierarchy, MELIA is now above Somerset for this range of price.

Even if less central and the room less practical to manage your luggage and clothes (lack of a closed box), I prefer MELIA for the global atmosphere, the facilities and the very nice design.

 

Looking at the pool pictures I get an idea of what type of customers they're looking for.

I also booked here for November, my price was 5320 baht per night (flexible rate) for a standard Premium room which includes breakfast.

I’m confused. What makes the pool area appear so family friendly?

Entertainment around the pool. Luxury booths to hide from the shade. 
Lounge area's on top to sit with groups. Mini Beach Club vibes

Should have added, couple's retreat and luxury get away.

Focusing on people that will and can spend.

Regarding family oriented hotels, I consider that all 4.5/5 stars hotels in Pattaya are targeting family (pricing and facilities).

I feel it even more with Somerset than Melia personally. At Somerset, I see much more Asian families with kids and/or dogs everywhere 😆

Hilton is more like a train station in my opinion to really have a clear vision of other guests.

Anyway, for all of them, I never felt judged by anyone, including other guests (confirmed by ladies who join me). This is the case both with short time freelances and several long time sharing time with me at the swimming pool or at the cocktail time The Level around 6pm.

Concerning Meliá, how could it be different with such a location, a few minutes by walk from Soi6? 😆

I see the price is really lower with a direct booking on the mobile app of Meliá network (lower than website and far lower compared to hotel reservation sites like booking.com or hotels.com).

Melia prices per person. As most of us are single traveler, this is important to book for one person only to get cheaper pricing. LT guests are not charged except for additional breakfast if you use it with them.

 

with this in mind, i get a quote of 4150 bahts per night for a premium room in July.

Thanks for the tip! I can confirm that booking via the app will get you a 5% additional discount.

(On a related note, Marriott offers discounted room upgrades via their app).

Lobby as you need the room card to reach your room floor with elevator, but no ID check/desk visit if you do not want. Girls can leave alone.

If the price were just a little lower, it would be a place I'd really want to visit.

Man I was going to book then read the reviews on Google, multiple people complained about thin walls and being able to hear people talking in the hallway and next door, that’s a no for me

Certainly not acceptable for a hotel in this price range 

Stayed here for one night as I wanted to be close to Soi 6 for a girl. 

Located on 2nd road you can get the baht bus further to Terminal 21. Of walk through their park to BR and head to WS. 

Staff was friendly and spoke English well. 

Cleanliness: Very clean but it's brand new, so you have to expect that. 

Room: Had the Deluxe Room which clocked at 27 m2. Which felt roomier than I expected.
The bed was big and comfy. The girl I brought here liked it and took a short nap after our session.
There is a couch area to sit and read a book.

Pool: Didn't try it

Parking: There is a section for cars.

Wi-fi: Was fast enough. Didn't take a screenshot

Food: A lot of choice with breakfast. Also option to sit outside. 

Price: Room started at 3300THB for me p/n. I had a discount code and it dropped to below 3000. 

Guest policy: Official policy is that you don't have to register. But you can if you want to. I walked in with a girl and didn't register in the evening. 

Would I recommend it: I feel price wise there are better options close by for a similar or bigger size room. So this will be a no.

Thanks for sharing the nearby alternatives.

I’ve added Altera to my shortlist for next time. It looks great, and it’s indeed a bit less expensive for a larger room.

For 13 nights in November:

Altera – €87/night for a 55 m² Grand Suite with swimming pool view

Melia – €105/night for a 27 m² Deluxe, or €119/night for a 31 m² Premium

What I really appreciate about the Melia is the excellent services, amenities, and stylish décor.
Let me compare the options between Altera and Melia for this November.

Any recent reviews?

I spent 4 nights at the Melia late September, it is a superb boutique style new hotel, breakfast was excellent..... photos of the room, very quiet.....  

When I was at the Melia the manager was British, the dining/breakfast room is located at the rear of the hotel where there is a swimming pool ( didn't use it), I recall it being overlooked by a large / high condo style building (Centric Sea?).

The hotel is also used by tour companies so expect an early free for all in the dining room if they are at the hotel.

The bedroom I had was front facing with an unrestricted view down to Beach Road and the sea. Would I use the hotel again, yes, if the price was right and the room was front facing.

Many expensive hotels standard rooms are small

I think maybe people pay for quality of service they receive perhaps ?

I have 50+ nights in Melia now and over 100 in Hilton.  Only stayed in suites at both, so can't comment on regular rooms. But I like Melia more than the Hilton. New. Food. Staff. Lay club. Walk to 6. I guess I miss central, but not much. I miss the mall entrance at the Hilton. Melia you always have to go through lobby. But staff doesn't care about anything. You have to not give a shit as well, because it's mostly families and less anonymous than the Hilton due to much smaller size. I'm sure these hotels can't compete on value, if that's what you're looking for.
