"According to their statements, they were unaware of the exact cause of the altercation. They claimed that a motorcycle taxi driver had been in a scuffle with the foreigner, and they mistakenly assumed that the tourist had done something wrong. Since they were acquainted with the motorcycle taxi driver and saw him being attacked, they stepped in to help but admitted that their actions were excessively violent."

 

Thus validating the oft quoted idea that any altercation with a Thai will result in a group assault.

Ouch.

 

 

Not only a group attack,  the use of helmets to smash the tourists head I would say was quite excessive..

Also they got the 3 young men.  What about the moto taxi driver ?  555. He was the one. Using a weapon and last unnecessary kick. Lol.

I never noticed that, until you pointed it out.

I wonder if that was the reason for the kicking?

Nobody in the world tougher than Thai blokes when they have a falang outnumbered and bleeding out their ears.

This is all over social media.    But wait for a bit and it will be forgotten and replaced by the next 'shocking' event.

I wonder if incidents like this really affects tourism that much.

Probably does. Just not people like us. You have to think they push the “family friendly” image of Pattaya, incidents like this got to put off prospective domestic tourists, and you read reports of when such things go viral in China, bookings drop off for a time.
Then presumably forgotten, like you say.

Let's see what the guy has to say once he makes statement. And if there is an overlap in all stories.
