OK guys so I have a few motorcycle riding questions please.

Oh i dint need the its dangerous brigade to come out thanks . I was a despatch rider in Central London for 5 years( I can strip a CX500 blindfolded)  , I can assure you Thailand is realised tame  compared fo that.

So Mike normally hires me a Yam Aerox 175 when I'm out and for the most its perfect 👌.  However my upcoming trip imwant to venture further a field - NaJomtiem is about as far as I would go.

Thus time I would love to ride down to BangSary , is that to far for an Aerox and back in a day and can I ride on the bigger roads like Sukhumvit Roax or do I need something bigger ?

I also used to drive bikes upto 160cc but now look for something more powerful for longer journeys and touring and like a Honda Forza 350, Yamaha XMAX 300, or a Honda ADV 350. All 3 are automatic and are a great ride.

I live out here in bang saray and I see every type of motor bike driving along Sukhumvit.

However, I think bang saray beach is a one and done kind of thing. Not much to it.

Maybe drive further into Rayong.

While you may be an "expert" rider, they are not

This is the issue in Thailand

No its not too far.

I own a Yamaha Nmax 155. I ride to Bang Saray occasionally from here in Jomtien where I live. I have ridden down to Sattahip and as far as Utapao Airport all on Sukhumvit Rd. Now that road construction is over in that area it's a great ride down south. :)

Stripping a Thai Girl is much more fun!

And an Aerox is 155.

You typically won't be going beyond 80 K's an hour to Bang Sare making a 155 just fine.

But some will say there's no replacement for displacement 555

I have the Aerox 155 and it's fine for highway speeds and comfortable for longer rides. I do use a full face helmet for the longer trips as it cuts down on wind noise.

A YouTuber ( who's name cannot be mentioned on this forum ) hired an Aerox and rode to Phuket and back . The rental guy was pissed when he found out how far he'd taken it !

Yep ..BangSaray is well within the capability of an Aerox.

I take my pcx150 from central pattaya down to rayong.

It does the job and takes about 1hr 20mkns.

Bang saray is a piece of cake.

You can get up to 100km/hr on sukhumvit, but 85 just feels nicer on that size bike

And.

An expert biker would look on a map at how far bang saray actually is from najomtien.

Wasn't the issue of distance and maybe I didn't ask the question properly.

I wasn't sure what the Thai law is with regards to riding bikes on different roads . Is the Suhkamvit Road from Pattaya down to Bangsary classed as a motorway with vehicle restrictions is what I was eluding to? I.e in the UK you can only ride Motorcycles of over 100CC on a motorway.

Thanks for the replies guys , answered my questions.

You cannot take a bike of any size on a thai motorway.

Sukhumvit isnt a motorway. So any bike will do.

There are also motorbike restrictions in some underpasses and bridges.

They are well signposted and apply to all bike aizes

Get the 155.

It does the job.

Bigger scooters dont cut through traffic as good.

(Cue the arguments. I hired an adv 350 thinking of buying one

Just felt too wide. Went back to the pcx).

Depends on you.
I know guys who quite happily rent 160cc bikes in Pattaya and then take them on road trips to Isan and other far flung places.
These guys would be fairly serious riders in their own countries.

I had the Aerox 155 last year and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Too small, underpowered and generally cheap.
This year I got an ADV350 and I love it. Can be a bit tricky for parking but otherwise much more suitable around town, for me.

Na-Jomtien, Bang saray, but maybe motorway.
confusing!

It means Honda Click 125..., to Honda CBR 650cc...
Comfort ride as PCX, smooth in traffic, or fat plastic Froza style...

When here, rent one kind of bike you think you want for one day, and another bike another day.

As you are biker, you do know you need sit on saddle and ride before you get correct feeling..

When I was living in BKK then, driving Honda CBR 250cc, light, fast, enough power for city traffic...

Good luck!

Bang Saray is no problem on a 155 Aerox.

Bigger 'maxi-scooters' just don't seem practical for Pattaya. Most are big ugly boxes (the Burgman wasn't nicknamed the "Burger-Van" for nothing). Weaving through traffic is much harder and parking a maxi-scooter is a nightmare where Thais like to squeeze 3 bikes into a space designed for 1. If you're going to buy one, I'd at least go for a slimmer design model without all the ridiculous box-fairing.

At home I have a 2024 Piaggio Beverly 400, which is almost the best of both worlds. It's slim enough to weave through traffic and park, but it still pulls 95mph / 155kph. Not sure if Beverlys are available in Thailand though, as I don't recall seeing any.

Regardless of the bike though, what really helps when riding on faster roads out of town is having a proper jet (or full) helmet with a visor that covers most of your face. Those typical 'loaner' lids given out by rental companies are a joke.

Although in my experience, not as much as sperm can damage your laptop!

Currently, I have a Honda Forza 350, and I would recommend a larger bike for longer distances. While smaller bikes can still do the job, if you're used to riding a larger bike, it might be more enjoyable for you.

I’ve ridden to those areas on a PCX and the Forza, and the difference in comfort is significant on larger bikes due to the better suspension and higher speed capabilities.

Some concerns like parking and lane splitting do come up, but I’ve only faced about 2-3% of issues with these on a daily basis. As an experienced rider, you’ll likely encounter minor issues as well.
