Is anybody taking RYBELSUS ( semaglutide ) tablets for weight loss..

I have been struggling with weight loss which has become worse especially after I gave up smoking a few months ago. My endocrinologist has prescribed RYBELSUS tablets which is a form of Ozempic. I am scared of the side effects so want know if any BM’s are taking it and if so what are their experiences.

Living sober, clean and staying away from loose women doesn't make a man live any longer. It just fucking feels like it.

Maybe not what you want to hear. But if you are worried about these side affects. Would it not be better to sort out your diet and do some exercise.

Maybe he's doing all that already, mate. Doctors are only supposed to prescribe these potentially harmful drugs to folks whose obesity is life threatening and is not responding sufficiently to prescribed lifestyle adjustments.

If he's seeing an endocrinologist and the drugs are prescribed, it implies he's not just farting about hoping these tablets'll go down well with the next triple cheeseburger and ten beers. Cut the dude some slack, at least until you know his full story.

I put one loads of weight during lockdown - I mean really shocking stuff - but stopping tanning the booze and takeaways, eating less and more healthily and exercising daily like billy-o got me back to my original weight after six months. But some folks aren't so lucky.

Nice to be nice and whatnot.

Tom.

I didn't say anything that was out of line?

Maybe let the op respond.  We can take it from there.

No experience with it but if your doctor thinks it safe to prescribe it should be ok. The list of potential side effects of being overweight is also incredible long, so it might be the lesser of two evils.

In any case, I would take your Doctors advice over any personal anecdote anyway, people's experiences are too different to be very meaningful.

I'm a pretty hefty guy, I've been on Ozempic and recently switched to Mounjaro which is also an injectable. I've lost 30 pounds in the last 42 weeks, I do a lot of walking as well, and will do so while on vacation. Mounjaro is a better drug than Ozempic (Semaglutide).

[scientific mumbo-jumbo] Mounjaro is made of the active ingredient Tirzepatide, which mimics the actions of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) [similar to Semaglutide] as well as a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).

I used to have what I affectionately termed RHS (Ravenous Hunger Syndrome) AKA the See food diet. Constant snacking between 3 full meals a day etc. As soon as I would wake up I would need to eat something relatively soon or I would literally feel sick to the point I would want to throw up. Intermittent fasting was not something I could do.

Now I go hours after waking up before I get something light as a snack and have a regular (but smaller) meal as dinner

I've had no ill effects at all with either drug.

In January I am back in Thailand and I'll be heading back to Lucky Tailor to get some new smaller shirts made. :)

I still have a long way to go, but for the first time, I feel like I found something that works for me.

My doctor has recommended I go on Monjuoro.  I'm currently 127kg 6ft1.

But I am also seeing my liver doctor and see him on the 6th January. Yes I got severe fatty liver.

I will ask him what's best, he did tell me to lose minimum of 15kg which I haven't done. I've read LOTS on the injectable  available and some people get gut aches, running shit etc but others get no side effects.

See what happens on the 6th..

No, you didn’t, and I apologize if my reply was a bit hamfisted. I feared the floodgates might be opening to ad hominem attacks on the OP. The fact that I was mistaken and they didn’t makes me happy. I should’ve known better. The vast majority of folks on here ARE nice.

Merry Christmas, and sorry again for giving the wrong impression.

I started on semiglutide as an injectable just over 2 years ago. I lost about 35lbs in the first year. Leveled off after the first year but kept using the drug. I started to buy it on my trips to Patts as it was about 20% cheaper. I would buy 2-3 vials per trip and use them back home. Not looking for input on legality/safety/medical advice on buying them in Patts. It worked fine for me.

Last trip I ended up deciding to try the pill version instead of the injection. Mainly because I had moved from weekly injections to smaller volume more frequent injections during the week. My doctor had moved his view to more frequent lower dosage as a better routine. I decided to do pills as they are more easily done every other day or so rather than the injections every other day.

I had some more aggressive side effects after starting the pills than I had with the injections. Cramps, stool issues, and headaches.

After 2 weeks I decided to drop the pills and go back to injections.

Jump forward two months and I was having major/MAJOR abdominal pain and took myself into the ER near my home. I could barely walk in the door. In the ER the doctor sent me for a CT abdominal scan.

After about an hour he was back to let me know I had developed diverticulitis in my bowel and worse, it had ruptured and I was septic.

I have had no previous gut issues in my life. Passed my most recent, 18 months ago, colonoscopy, I’m early 50’s.

Long story short, I was admitted, I was in hospital 20 days, underwent major bowel surgery that has resulted in a major physical change in how my body now works and will last at minimum the next 4-6 months. It is not fun.

Was it due to the weight loss drug? My doctor was not quick to point to that as the culprit. I however am more basic and I look for things that have changed in my physical routine and those meds are the only changes I have made.

These are still very new to the market and long term usage data is very limited. I would advise anyone looking to try these to do so under a doctor’s care and to ensure you are monitoring your body’s messaging closely.

I had a few abdominal cramps within the two-three months prior to the issue and didn’t get those checked until the day I went to the ER.

So that was my experience. I was due to fly out today to Patts for my annual Christmas/New Year’s trip. Due to these medical issues, it didn’t happen.

Good luck in whatever direction you take.

Now that’s very scary. Hope you recover very soon. If semiglutide has caused it then it’s not a side effect but a total disaster. Whats mind boggling is that this episode has happened two years after you started the course because by then the body should have adapted to the drug. Will talk to my doctor and find out if these side effects has been seen in any latest clinical tests. Thanks for the long reply.

I'd avoid anything with potential side effects in tablet form and always get injections. As someone who used to do steroids years ago, one thing you quickly learn is taking anything oral is more stressful for your body. All tablets have to pass through the liver and be metabolised. At least when you inject you bypass the first pass effect.
I don't know anything about this drug, but if it's strong and you do take it, inject for sure.

I have been taking Rybelsus for a bit over a year now.  It was prescribed for Type 2 diabetes.  You have to take it in the morning with a sip of water and then wait 30 minutes before drinking or eating anything.  It somehow causes the stomach to retain food longer and keep it from passing to the intestines quickly.  That results in being able to eat less per meal.  You have to adjust how much you eat.  If you over eat you will barf!  It does not take long to adapt to new portion sizes and smaller meals.

It wasn't prescribed for weight loss for me, but I have dropped 20lbs.  As far as my experience, I have had no side effects.

Have you considered intermittent fasting? Maintaining weight loss is much more challenging than losing it. You may lose some weight using some medication, but will need to change lifestyle, diet and habits to maintain lost weight. I used intermittent fasting with keto and regular light exercise. I started eating once per day which was a challenge for few weeks, but was smooth sailing after that. I lost 20 kilos in 1 year and am still maintaining it.

All the best with whatever you do.

My GP surgery recommended me for a Oxford University clinical trial of oral Semaglutide (Ozempic), I am Type 2 Diabetic.

It is the version for T2 Diabetes rather than weight loss. It does limit my appetite and I really don't feel like snacking between meals. I lost only about 2kgs in the last 10 months, but my blood glucose levels have fallen to what is probably below diabetic threshold - I won't know for sure until blood test in March.

I didn't have any noticeable side effects.

I will be going to los next week for two months, I usually lose 3-5kgs while I'm there as I don't feel hungry in the warmer climate.

I don't know if the drug caused the issue but for sure you can't conclude that if you have taken a drug for 1 year it is safe to keep taking it for longer. If a drug is changing the bodies metabolism possibly the body can't fully adapt to the changes the drug makes and over time the adverse effects accumulate.

It's just like smoking. You may think your body has adapted to smoking as you don't cough like you did the first time but 5 or 10+ years later the accumulated damage can cause serious issues.

Unfortunately losing weight gets harder the more you weight because the body adapts to the extra weight both physically and mentally. These drugs do help people lose weight, but if people don't change their eating habits while on them they need to keep taking them forever and the risks of other secondary issues is going to increase even if they lose some weight.

Saw the liver specialist,  wants me to do a glucose fasting test because if I am diabetic I get the Wegovy cheaper at $7.70 a month compared to $160 a month if I'm not diabetic.  He did say that I will get diabetes 90% chance in next few years. Also said that these drugs Wegovy , Ozempic etc are a life time deal..
