Remember in Feb 2023, took a hour from getting the escalator up to security, to passing through the passport control booth, and that was 11pm at night !!  😞

That's great!.. I just left first week of November, it wasn't that way.  I'll find out how things go next month, arrive mid-month :)

Emigration doesn’t mean what you think it does.

I have used it twice now and it works great.

  • Scan passport
  • Doors open
  • Take a few steps forward
  • Scan face (facial recognition)
  • Doors open and you are done.

Very fast and efficient.

For those who still like to get their passports stamped, you can walk past the new automated area and there are immigration officers in the booths like before.

If you have an older passport you will need to see the officers anyways, as the new system only accepts newer passports.

I think we all know what they mean however.   When English isn't your 1st language, then as long as people know what you mean, thats the important thing in my opinion

I always called it Passport Control when leaving Thailand, as that's what's written on the booths

Abu Dhabi airport did a first. No need passport or boarding pass. Just facial recognition. I suspect that it applies to someone who has used their passport once before and they have the biometric and passport details.

No slotting or scanning anything. Just go to the gate. Stand on the foot print on the flor and look at the camera. And gate in front opens within seconds.

No thanks … maybe I’ll actually have a passport make it to its full expiry before I need to renew it again.

I don’t know. But you must have checked all airports around the world, since your claming…😂

Thank you for the correction!

What would be the correct english word?

The correct term for the station where passports are inspected when leaving a country is typically referred to as "Exit Immigration" or "Departure Immigration."

While "emigration" is the act of leaving one’s country to reside elsewhere, the inspection process at the airport is more commonly described using terms like:

  • Exit Immigration
  • Immigration Control (Outbound)
  • Departure Control

Electronic biorecognition gates have been in operation at Heathrow for at least a couple of years but they don't seem to work too well and I usually have to queue and then my passport isn't recognised and I then have to go to another queue to have passport checked by an immigration officer.

I just got a new passport so I hope that works better after this year's trip.
