Just been reading this in Pattaya People, looks like times are starting to get hard in Pattaya

Also read this in the Bangkok post, prices of drinks have gone up, maybe not much for us farangs but I feel sorry for the Thai people who only earn 200 baht a day, only problem now is how much are the bars & gogo's going to put up there prices by

 

Excise tax rises on liquor, beer

The cabinet on Wednesday approved increases in excise taxes on beer and liquor, effective from midnight.

 

The cabinet expected the increase would boost government revenue by 6.3 billion baht per year.

 

Excise tax on beer will rise to 58% from 55% and on distilled alcoholic drinks to 48% from 45%.

 

As result the price of rice whiskey, or lao khao , will rise to about 120 baht/litre from 110 baht/litre.

 

The decision will increase the price of a large bottle of beer by four or five baht, and brandy by about 19 baht.

 

Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said the ministry is restructuring the overall tax system, and excise taxes on other products could also be increased.
