Took Wrong Baht Bus?

Recommended Posts

I hopped onto one of the baht buses at Soi 6 on Beach Rd and thought that after passing Walking St it would swing up and around back along Second Rd since I wanted to get dropped off at The Base when I’m staying. Instead this baht bus turned right and stopped where others were parked towards the direction of Jomtien. It course I had to get off. Then as I walked across the road to the direction on Second Rd that I wanted to go to, there were other baht buses waiting. So did I get on the wrong baht bus?  Or do all of them going along Beach Rd stop and then continue to Jomtien requiring a change in buses at that point if the intention is to continue along Second Rd to Central Pattaya?

The drivers go where they want. You just have to see what happens whenever they get to a junction and go with flow. If it’s not the way you want then press the buzzer, get off and pay and then look for another.

Turning left or right on 2nd road, the driver will most likely stop. Expecting a ride around the block would be the exception. AND as davidge points out, the drivers do what they want.  If he ain't going the way you want, get off and spend another 10 baht.

Exactly, they make anyone getting off around the corner onto Second Road get off and get on another one anyway.

Don’t worry yourself. It is all part of the experience!

Getting lost is all part of finding your way around, and you might find something interesting along the way. Happens to me all the time when I go somewhere new.

Pattaya is quite small, so just walk in ever increasing circles until you get back to your lodgings. Or take a motorcycle taxi. Or bar fine a comely maiden to be your guide.

Just to add to the above, even if he turns left he’ll most likely stop and you’ll need to get off and take another.

They have been queuing up on 2nd Road northbound for a while if they didn't start on Thappraya Road. Where Mike hotel is.

So you're going to get the boot even if it doesn't turn right.

It would be easier to get off at Royal Garden Mall and Beach Road and just walk through to 2nd Road for The Base.

FYI the worst BB error is not paying attention at the south end of Buakhow and it turns left and when you look up you're at Sukhumvit. Followed by inattention north of Central Marina and it goes into Naklua and not onto Beach Road.

Not that it's a million miles but it can be awhile to find one going the right way back.

They don't deserve to get paid if they go off route.

On many routes they have a choice where they go, so it's not as if they're trying to scam you for 10 Baht. If you get to Dolphin roundabout, for instance, they can choose either to carry on towards Naklua or turn left to go back along Beach Road. If the direction they choose is not the way you want to go, just ring the bell, pay your 10 Baht and cross the road. Unlikely you'll have to wait more than a few minutes.

If you feel that bad about the service they provide for just 10 Baht (which hasn't changed for the last 18 years I've been using them), then perhaps you shouldn't use them. Ever.

I always make sure I have a few 10 Baht coins with me as yes it's a bit of a gamble which way the BB goes at Dolphin.

It's a PITA if you have to get a second BB and you only have high value notes.

Better to get off at soi 11 and beech road and walk up soi 11 to 2nd road, the Base will be right there.  That is always the most direct and quickest way.

This is what I do when going back to my condo at Soi 15. I walk up one of the soi's that lead to Pattaya Avenue.

You never know where those buses go 😂. If they go away different direction than you want, just hit the buzzer and get off and find one going the way you want to go.

Punters should get off and pay up if they discover the baht bus is not going thr expected route. Another one, likely going your favoured direction will come along before too long.
