My Day Out at Rachakram Golf Club BKK

Played here on a Tuesday in August

Had been discussing with @Clem Fandango a couple of things I was interested in trying in Thailand golf prior to the trip. One was playing night golf but the caddies telling me about the mosquito problem at night had put me off. The other idea was to play two rounds in one day. 

I had pencilled in two rounds for Wednesday but after the good round at Riverdale I was thinking fuck it. Let's do it today. So after finishing up at Riverdale I went and had a massage and a feed and got dressed and jumped in the car

Head off to the course and miss the interchange turn off due to some road works and take the longer way there but eventually arrive at the course.

Being I didn't have a booking today I figured I would just try my hand and see what happens. The course was nearly empty so they had no problem letting me on 

Head out on the course and tee off at 1400 and am around in 2.5 hours. Being the sun goes down in Thailand at just after 1800 I figured four hours should be enough but I massively over estimated the time it would take to play the round.

Reason being it was fucking hot at this time of day and most people ain't playing so it was a quick round 

Played on my own helped to get around quickly 

 

Shot a 86 on the course seeing it blind for the first time so technically I played just under my handicap 

Started off on the 10th and had 43 on the Back 9. Was going well and had brought my form from this morning with me but I got to about 6 holes in and I was fucking cooked. The heat was intense and I was really feeling it hard. 

I did keep the drinks supply up drinking plenty of water and the occasional Gatorade but I was finding the conditions tough. 

Dropped two doubles on the last two holes of the round to post a 43 and I be putting a bit of that down to the conditions just effecting me too much.

Had something to eat and sat in the Shade for 10 minutes before the Front 9 started and it with the temperature starting to ease made the Last 9 of the round a bit more bearable and tolerable 

 

Front nine was scrapping along ok early but a double on the 4th after 2 in the bunker hurt and a double on the last where I pulled my shot at the green left and left me blocked out by trees for my chip on left me having to chip it near the green to chip again hurt

End of the day I did play ok this round. The heat did hamper me a little I think and I could have posted a slightly better score but end of the day I had played well

Two rounds in a day was a first for me. Not something I will do every day but something I will consider doing again for sure

If anything I did learn that teeing off in the arvo has an advantage of a lack of players on course so a quick game can be had. But I teed off too early. A 1500 tee off would have helped a hell of a lot better with dealing with the heat plus I still would have had an hour of daylight to get the round in 

 

Highlight would be the Birdie on the 14th. I had got the drive away but leaked my fairway wood right and into the tree area. Found my ball in a spot where I just got out of prison with a full swing and the tree was not interfering with my line of play if I went where I needed to but it was close enough it could be a problem if I was wayward. One of those shots you have to commit to and focus on and ignore the potential pitfalls . I did and smoked it on the green. Leaving me a 12 footer which I rolled in to get the Birdie Dance happening 

Lowlight be the 17 and 18th . Back to back doubles. 17th a long Par 3 I hit right and it bounced down the slope into the water hazard. Penalty shot pitch on two putt for a 5. 18th a Wayward Drive  left nearly OB I got lucky and found. Got back on the fairway and out of jail leaving a shot in of around 70m. Found the green but some poor putting saw me 3 putt the thing 

 

As for my game today.

Tee shots were good. It was probably my best day today at teeing off all week 

Fairway Woods am hitting well again 

Irons were probably my best struck shots from this area all week 

Wedges were ok. But if they were better here I am shooting a lower score 

Chipping was in hindsight frustrating as I am starting to chip better but am not showing it in my scores enough 

Putting was a bit of a let down 35 putts for the round. Made two three putt holes but really didn't make enough putts around here for my liking

Bunkers Got into one today.Took two to get out of 

 

Lost Ball tally came in at 1 on the 17th

As for the course it is a great course and great value for money and in good condition to boot . It is set out in the boondocks of BKK so it ain't gonna get a lot of foot traffic. I would highly recommend it to anyone

How the temperature was that day.

Started off at 34c with a Feejs Like Temp of 41C 

 

Dropped only a little by the end of the round 555
