Mae Hong Son loop on a bike.

Hey all!

I had a search, but couldn’t find anything on here.

Looking for advice on the Mae Hong Son loop.

Places to stay along the way, the best places to stop and see during the ride, any girls in any towns (I know probably not), cool bars to drink in at night, etc.

Ive seen plenty of YouTube vids, but they’re usually from young backpackers, not old farts like us!

I’m planning on doing it in January, with a couple of mates. Experienced riders, all of us.

Also bike hire in Chiang Mai, hotels and any other general info.

Thanks in advance!

Lots of guides online...

I did it in the reverse order and rode from CM - Pai and around the loop.

There are a few threads on bike rentals in CM here, have a search...my info is well out of date when I hired a Honda CBR250R there.

Loads of accomodation in the stops, have a look on Booking or Agoda.

Take clothing to cover your body as it is a hot ride and a waterproof jacket if going in the rainy season.

As long as you are an experienced rider here then it is pretty easy, but always a new surprise trying to kill you 555

Mine was a tree fallen across the road on a blind corner which I found while doing 120 kmh (brake in a straight line and aim for the top of the tree with only light branches and you should make it)...

Definitely an adventure and one you will never forget.

Unless you really like to see Doi inthanon you can always extend and go down to mae sot for a longer ride.  Turn  back north at Tak or Phitsanulok.

Edit:

Go hardcore and do it on a scoopy, no need to worry about going 120kmh 😉

Did the MHS loop 3 times , once with a off-road moto guided , was pretty good , just 20 years ago , did it 3 years ago on a bicycle and last year ona scooter because i had fallen of my bicycle and couldn't ride it.

I kind of like the loop but there are nicer roads and views in the Nan area , the MHS loop doesn't have much great views.

Liked Mae Hong Son Town the best , there is a very nice viewpoint above MHS where there are some stupa's to visit i don't like back pack center Pai
