I am heading there mid October and am torn between two hotels, Amber and Amethyst.  I frequent the Soi Buakhao bars from Boomerang to Tree Town.  Speedy internet is important.  Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.  I have stayed at Amber but only saw Amethyst being built last time I was in town.

I have booked for the second time at amethyst. I have never been to Amber but i can tell you that you cannot be wrong with amethyst.

Amber seems good in all points also. Maybe less expensive and I could consider also that hotel as anleternative. One good point for me you have a balcony. In Amethyst you do not have In the majority of the room.

the location for the both seem perfect.

Amethyst also is really new.

I never expect a busy hotel in Thailand (or other countries) even 5* to have consistent speedy wifi, except in the early hours of the morning when other guests are partying or sleeping and not occupying the band width.

Amethyst, super deluxe room😀.

Stayed in both these hotels. While I would describe the Amber as ‘quite good’, I would rate the Amethyst as ‘excellent’. Everything, room, facilities and customer service is better at the Amethyst.

Funny reading in hindsight as the amethyst is now almost twice the price in comparison to amber

The Amethyst is fantastic but is now very expensive to what it used to be. Is it worth the extra...i'm not so sure. I find if you book direct you get a far better price than on Agoda most of the time.

The Amethyst is indeed fantastisch, but more expensive then when it opens. Stayed there several times, multiple room and always had a great service. Only downside for me is breakfast, don’t consider it a five start worthy breakfast at the hotel. But a lot of good breakfast options around.

I would book the one you get a better price at, because both are really good in my opinion.

I stayed at Amber and my buddy stayed at Amethyst. Amethyst is definitely above and beyond, but Amber is top notch as well. I think Amethyst pool situation can't be beat if that's important to you. Either way, I think you will be happy at either just depends do you want to spend extra to be at the best.

The standard rooms at amber are little smaller than amethyst. But both hotels are very comfortable and real nice. I would prefer Amethyst as I just like the room layout better. But noise might be a factor here.

+1 for the Amethyst.

I’ve stayed in 2 rooms, my friend I travelled with stayed in the 1bd Suite.

- Premier King with Balcony: best value (for me). Good space and balcony to chill in.

- Grand Executive Deluxe: awesome room and space, not much to look at on the balcony. Loved the bathroom, couch area and vibe generally. I got it at a reasonable rate, I’m sure it’s gone up since then.

- 1bd suite: I disliked it tbh, the room didn’t have much natural light and there were too many shadows but had a nice balcony view. Decent space but felt mildly closed in , overpriced imho.

I did request to have a look at the duplex suite because I wanted to see if the private pool would work for me. Not so much, nice apartment type space, pool is meh, overpriced, would suit a family of 3-4 with some creature comforts.

I would recommend the Amethyst.

Had a look to the rooms in both hotels and in my opinion Amethyst  gives you more for your money

I stayed at amber and loved it.  Staff is nice, its in a great location, very nice common area. I didnt have any complaints staying there and would stay there again.

Never stayed at Amethyst but it looks really nice.

I stayed at Amethyst,

The staff was great. No questions asked when I invited a girl over. They would keep their ID and call the room when they were leaving before giving it back to them.

Breakfast was great. And the bathrooms were super clean (really important for me).

I have stayed at both hotels. I would stay at both again, but it would depend on price. I would rate Amethyst slightly better in almost all aspects, but you do pay more for it.

I think next time I would get a smaller room at Amethyst

Amethyst Grand Executive Room. https://amethysthotelpattaya.com/amethyst-grand-executive/

  • I appreciated the extra space in the room, though it's not essential for the main activities. It was convenient to eat some snacks with company at the couch and table.
  • The bathroom is quite spacious and what you expect for the price. I have been to some older suites at other hotels which have very small and disappointing bathrooms.
  • If you don't get a massive discount of the standard room rate then I think the room is too expensive and I can't justify the price.
  • The air con can work too well sometimes, and the control unit on the wall is not easy to use.
  • Housekeeping was always prompt, and reception will call you around 4pm to make sure you don't miss out if you've been sleeping.
  • View from the balcony on level 7 (top level) is ok, level 6 is mostly obstructed.
  • I didn't hear any construction noise in early January, not sure much was actually happening though.
  • Proper black out curtains.
  • I could plug in my Australian power plugs without an adaptor.

Amber Grane Deluxe Room https://atmindgroup.com/hotelamberpattaya/accommodation/grand-deluxe-room/

  • I think this was the largest room you could book, which was smaller than the Amethyst Grand Executive. It needs a few more square metres to feel spacious.
  • It does not have full black out curtains. I needed to clip the two curtains together to block morning sun.
  • Minimal storage provided (drawers etc). There is no drawer for the bedside tables.
  • Ladies were never asked for ID at reception, you can just walk through. I assume you can drop the ID off at reception if desired.
  • There is small shop that has alcoholic drinks, snacks and related items in the lobby. Useable 24/7. This was convenient as 7/11 isn't next door like it is at Amethyst.
  • I didn't use either pool, but the Amber one has lots of shade so I would probably rate it higher compared to the rooftop Amethyst pool.
  • There are roosters and dogs in one of the lots next door. Might not be for you if you are a light sleeper. I only know about them from getting back around sunrise.
  • You need to press more stuff on the safe and have to wait longer for it to close.
  • I needed an adaptor to plug in my Australian devices.
  • Housekeeping over new year seemed very busy. One day they did not clean my room.
  • Air con worked reliably, but it was a little louder.

Similar features

  • Cleanliness is what you expect, no complaints.
  • Did not eat much at the restaurants. They were fine for the price. Never tried the breakfasts.
  • Plenty of free water daily.
  • I didn't hear anything from adjoining rooms, but you can hear some noise from the corridor.

Thanks for the detailed overview — very helpful 👍

I’ll be staying at the Amber hotel soon, but I’m planning to try the Amethyst later this year as well. From what I’ve seen, prices during the off-season are quite similar.

Great report. Was leaning towards the Amethyst in July but with the contraction and some of the reviews, maybe I will check out The Amber. 6his information is much appreciated.

I've stayed in both the Amber and the Amethyst so my two cents worth:

  • For me both hotels don't have a great breakfast but plenty of local options
  • I do like to have a balcony but these are limited at the Amethyst and the rooms that do have them are expensive and mostly a crap view
  • Both are in a good location but the Amber is is a quieter location
  • Price is usually much higher at the Amethyst. I stayed just after it opened and then was equal to the Amber
  • I like to sit by the pool in the daytime and much preferred the Amber. More shaded areas and the Amethyst played terrible music (for me) all day long
  • Staying at the Amber for my next visit in March
