atm scam on walking street

Red ATM opposite of the hammer disco (which is now closed) will let you use the ATM then the screen goes completely BLACK and you have no idea what is going on w/ your card (which is still in the ATM) or your transaction so you start pushing buttons to get your card out, and next thing you know transaction went through with a 150 bhat fee with no prior warning. Complete scam, they purposely make the screen turn off so you hit buttons to confirm the fee and get you card back.

Beware of the scam RED ATM on the opposite side of Hammer Disco on Walking Street.

it has been previously posted that ATMs are charging 150bht per transaction i agree its a rip off but its not just down to that ATM i think the banks in thailand must be going through hard times also, depending on how many times you use the ATMs it might be more benificial to take more cash or t/cks with you when travelling to thailand, maybe a bm whos more clued up on monetery issues would like to comment,IMO.

That's the first time I've been charged more than 20 bhat (and most commonly there is no fee at all). I usually use the ATMs on Soi Honuman on the way to Jomtien. The yellow ones seem to have no fees ever. This one was siam city bank, the part that really pisses me off is that the screen turned black and it didn't give any kind of warning, it's like they programmed in a black screen for you to continue.

Here in Oz the banks are complete assholes when it comes to fee's. And you get fuck all interest on your money!

been hit with the 150 fee on every transaction as well, found a ATM that will give out 20K on one withdrawal so that helps a little to cut down on the fee.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

On a similar note, I was shorted twice on money changing at a couple small exchange vendors on WS....everyone count

your money carefully when you exchange...Cheers! :GoldenSmile1:

Although I'm not in favour of the new fees, I'm just wondering how the OP knew that they 'purposely make the screen turn off' ? If you're not receiving any money from the ATM, then surely there has been no transaction and, therefore, no fee should be applied.

I try and use ATMs at or inside banks during opening hours, so that I can (hopefully) sort out any potential problems.
