Still very rare for a foreigner to be attacked in this way by a group of young Thais. I wouldn't be walking along Soi Yensabai at 3am either.

It's also that not everyone dares to file a complaint and also that not all complaints always appear in the news.

It’s been stated already that Pattaya is still relatively safe, but not quite the level of safety as in places like Singapore and probably Hong Kong. My advice would be to be sleeping at 3 AM.
