What UPS ?

What make and power rating of an UPS would be required for a desktop PC.

I tried Syndome a while ago but it failed after 1 year.

Any good recommended makes?

The battery on any UPS will only last a finite amount of time. American Power Conversion has a trade-in program; I should imagine others do too.

 

As to recommending a specific model, that would depend on the power draw of your setup, how long you want the battery to hold your setup, and what other features you want. Here is APC's online UPS selector: http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm

I have been using PCM for the last few years here in Thailand as they are easy to get in IT City and also good support. You can get an extra or replacement battery in TukCom or Pantip Plaza.

Thanks for the info,the UPS Selector informs me I need an 750 VA model and the PCM site lists an Imperial Series model so that is what I have selected.

If you are going to get a 750, i would recommend getting a 1000VA so you can add things like your Router / Modem into it as well. The 1000 VA from PCM is just over 4,000 Baht in IT City.

Got a PCM 1500 VA so I can be sure to cover my Samsung 32 LCD and PC upgrade coming soon.
