Flying United Airlines to LOS before June 15, 2009?

I searched the forum and didn't find any post about this, so here goes. As many of you may already know, several major US carriers are running a double elite qualifying miles (DEQM) promotion. Getting elite status on an airline has many benefits, and taking advantage of the promotion can get you there faster. On United, having the lowest elite status level gets you free checked bags on domestic flights, access to Economy Plus seating, slow earning of free upgrades to domestic first class, and a bonus on how many miles are earned on all flights.

 

If you earn status before June 15, the benefits last until Jan 31 2011, so there's time to take advantage of them. One round trip from the USA to Thailand will earn elite staus if you take advantage of the DEQM promotion.

 

The problem is, the terms and conditions on the United web site indicate that you must sign up for the promotion before you purchase your tickets. If you've already bought your tickets, that would leave you SOL. Now United has started a new promotion, a waiver that allows you to get double EQM for tickets purchased before you signed up for the promotion. This means anyone flying from the USA to Thailand before June 15 can get elite status on United. Anyone flying anywhere at all on United can get closer to, or achieve a higher level of elite status.

 

The primary promotion is MPW029. If you haven't registered for the DEQM promotion you can do so on the United web site. The unadvertised pre-purchased ticket waiver promotion is MPW999. If you call the Mileage Plus customer service, they will sign you up for the promotion. It cannot be done on the web site as it is an unadvertised promotion.

Thanks for this! I don't know how I missed it. I bought my ticket for my April trip right before the promotion began, and thought I was SOL. Just called United and the DEQM will be applied. This will give me over 52,000 EQM just from the promotion. Screw Premier Exec. 1K after June!
