Crazy request, actual Thai food places recommendation

Tapaz1976

Recommended Posts

90% of the threads in this section are about Western food it seems. Now I like a nice burger but always on the lookout for nice, proper Thai restaurants (not touristy Thai restaurants like Kiss food 1,2,3 ...).

Anybody can recommend some places?

Before I get the 'it's Thailand there's Thai food everywhere', or 'use the search option' or even worse 'no good Thai places in Pattaya' I did find some really nice places myself over the last trips (see links below).

Anybody who has a recommendation of places like the ones from my findings below this would be very welcome.

Thanks

The old Tin cup is a shadow of its former self, but if you can figure out the hours and days it actually is open(I never was able to figure this out) they still have some pretty good variations of pork/chicken noodle soup and even a chicken dish that seems popular.  The place always seems to have people in it and I would rate it as good.

The newish Foodwave place in the lower level of Central Festival does some solid Thai food for good prices. Nice chicken pad Thai 120 baht etc.  Without the insane bustle of Terminal21, decent sized meals as well.

Did you visit any of the mentioned places in person? I been eating at least one meal a day in Thai street place highly popular with Thai and falang alike and with 64 dishes on the menu more than enough choices for most folks. Super friendly owner with decent enough English to guide and, equally important, joke customer. To find the little green restaurant on Buakhao its located between two weed shops, Blow and Speak Easy and many days  a hugh hen will walk between the 4 tables followed by a small fluffy chicken. Want it more authentic?

I can recommend this shop as well. I went there for a couple of times last year when I stayed at Holiday Inn Express.

Decent and tasty food for good prices. Run by two friendly guys

Please keep in mind that everything I write is based on my own experiences, my personal preferences and my expectations. YMMV!

Seuk Sud 2 is wedged between 2 weed shops on Buakhao with front row view of all the passing eyecandies.

Da, owner and master of the wok, speak good English and know her dishes if help to choose is needed.

Seuk Sud 2 has been my daily diner for the past 3 month and highly recommended.

I almost exclusively eat Thai food while in Thailand, only having some western food three to five times in a two-month period last trip.

Here are my recommendations:

1. Ruen Thai Restaurant

Overview:

This has some of the best Thai dishes I've had in Thailand. On weekends, they also have some cultural dance shows. The red curry chicken is great, as are the fish, salted-fish kailan (a vegetable dish) and other common Thai dishes.

The restaurant is at Second Road in Pattaya and has been there for over 30 years or so.

Price: Slightly higher than normal Thai restaurants (such as Kiss Food), which surprises me as the food and entertainment is of better quality.

2. Surf Kitchen

Overview:

Some people gave bad reviews for this but I take this restaurant as the best Thai restaurant on Jomtien Beach, from its location at Soi 5 Jomtien Beach Road up till Soi Bun Kanchana. Beyond that, I am not sure as I haven't explored a lot more of the restaurants down there.

I like its 'seafood steamed in a coconut' and some really spicy beef - beef with pepper or something like that. JUst beside it is a Kita Tea Stand which sells really cheap boba tea.

Price: Again, slightly higher than normal Thai restaurants.

3. Restaurant 333

Overview:

A literal diamond in the rough, if by 'rough', you mean smack dab by the beach. Restaurant 333's real name is in Thai, but it has the number 333 on it, so I call it that. Google translate has it as 'Pa Wek Restaurant 333'.

This is a typical Thai restaurant that has a good selection of seafood - shrimp, squid, fish, mussels, etc. You can ask the restaurant to cook it however way they know how to cook, as long as you know how to speak and order in Thai. I generally just follow their menu and use my pointing skills and hope for the best. So far, I like everything they served.

Unfortunately, this place has no A/C and it could get hot if you're there on a lazy afternoon. They do have fans as well as the occasional sea breeze, and I find it takes some sort of mental discipline to convince yourself that these things can keep you cool.

Price: One of the cheapest seafood restaurants I've been to.
