Baron Beach Hotel questions

Maybe sending an E-mail direct to the reservations manager will satisfy your queries as it's a relative new place. Also I.ve heard that taking this direct approach often results in getting a far better deal particulary in these hard recessionary times!

Isnt its location (Soi 9?) shared with that new Central Festival Plaza???

Meaning that the outside shots of it bathed in sunshine are now "out of date"?

Just checked in today, Sunday, May 10th. Just spent 3 nights at Galaxy Suites located right in the middle of Soi Diamond, above the Heaven Above GoGo. I got real tired of that place. It's not kept very clean, they do not have a restaurant, and the rooms are only average, unless you get their jacuzzi suite, which I never have seen.

I saw the rate for the superior room on Agoda.com for 1067 THB, but I got the impression that the superior rooms had only the twin bed configuration. I didn't see a way to book the deluxe room on that site, and I was assuming that the deluxe room had the large bed. I walked in, and explained to a very helpful front desk staff that I had no reservation. They showed me 2 rooms. The deluxe room that I saw actually had the 2 bed config, but it did have an outdoor balcony with an attractive table and 2 chairs and a view of their pool. The superior room has the large bed, but no balcony.

I initially was offered the superior for 1500 THB, but after a bit of discussion, got 1200, with one breakfast included, and no joiner fee. I was offered the deluxe for 1500 THB.

The Baron Beach hotel is very well located, accessible either from Second Road or Beach Road, and a short walk to Soi 8, or Soi 7, and right next door to a spectacular mall, although I personally have no reason to go inside. The Pattaya Police station is right on the corner of Soi 9 and Beach road.

I just took an afternoon nap and the bed is decent, but average pillows. Great airconditioner, with remote control. Nice size flat screen TV, Coffee Maker, free wireless. Absolutely best deal for a very nice hotel. What a contrast with that dingy Galaxy Suites!

i've got mixed reports about joiner fees at this hotel. basically i've been told book with hotel direct then no joiner fee but higher room rate. book through an agent, cheaper room rate but possible joiner fee. it seems to depend on which agent you book through.

i emailed and their response backed this up.

"Dear xxxx

What agent you booking?

if you booking direct with hotel, joiner are free."

confusing!!

Just spoke to the hotel.

If you book direct at 2,500 baht per night, then no joiner fee.

If you book with any agent, then there is a 500 Baht joiner regardless whether u book a room for 2 or not.

I've booked 2 single superior rooms at the BBH for 7 nights in Oct through Agoda, the cost was about 1000bht pn per room without breakfast and 1300 with breakfast. There was no mention of a joiner fee on the Agoda site and won't be paying one on arrival if requested by the hotel, because there is no mention of it anywhere.

I've noticed its cheaper to book through an agent that deal with the hotel direct. I also booked 7 nights at the Sunshine hotel & Residences, again through Agoda, for 1000bht pn with breakfast in the new residence complex. If I was to book through the hotel I was quoted 1600bht for the residence and 1200bht for the hotel section.????? Go figure

The reason why I chose these hotels was because they both had good reviews no mention of joiner fees and BBH is a new hotel in the thick of the action.

I guess I'll find out when I get there......please keep me posted

Yah, right. Let us know how this works out, if they ask you to pay are you just going to refuse?

The way to think about it is if the hotel says 'No Joiner Fee' then there is not one, if they don't say this then anything can happen. Basically no hotels mention or advertise they have a joiner fee, they just hit you with one.

If there is any doubt you are taking a risk to stay there

I could just cancel my booking and book elsewhere....have plenty of time.

I have just sent a request to Agoda and Asia Web Direct to confirm if this is the case.

Keep you posted.

Barmatt: Considering the location and the economic climate, I can't imagine they would dare charge you. In the future, if you're not sure, book a double. It'll get you out of joiners more often than not. If you want to be sure, e-mail the manager back and tell him you're going to cancel unless he confirms no joiner. Print it up and bring with when you go out. The security guards sometimes like to make a little business for themselves. 100 baht on check in, can work wonders with them too. wj

MY QUESTION TO AGAODA

From: barmatt

Subject: RE: Contact info from customer (Other) (LTK14904873423X)

Does that mean if I bring someone back to my room (a girl) I will have to pay joiner fee? Do I have to pay joiner fee every time I bring a girl back?? If so how much?

After all that crap...yes there is a joiner fee of 500thb pn

I initially asked if the hotel was guest friendly...and the response was, yes....but they did not mention a joiner fee. A lesson for beginners of internet bookings...ask as much as possible because words can be lost in translation.

Thanks for the advice wackyjacky I may go down that path but I'll prob just cancel and book with another hotel and save some hassle. Wont lose too much only $15US but the AUS$ is on the way up.

Sorry for the miss info

Barmatt: I still bet they wouldn't charge you, but better to book elsewhere. A lot of the time they say on the website that they'll charge you, so they look more legit. Too bad the place is cheap, new, and close to 7 & 8. Pattaya a beach town (where you dare not go in the water) of what, maybe 80,000 people 30,000 of whom happen to be sex workers, doesn't have a lot of joiner fees. Even the Sheraton and Marriott have no problem with over-nighters. I was wondering why the place was so cheap. In the middle of Mongerville and they're going for the family crowd. Amazing ! wj
