hi

was searching health ins and the following came up on a site

https://www.tmtvisaservicephuket.com/best-health-insurance-companies-in-thailand-for-foreigners/#:~:text=Dhipaya Insurance – Established for over, used insurance companies in Thailand.

  1. Dhipaya Insurance – Established for over 69 years, Dhipaya Insurance offers a Health Insurance and Accident Claim Service for both foreigners and Thais. With an easy procedure to use their insurance card and ongoing support, Dhipaya is one of the most used insurance companies in Thailand.

on searching i found this cover

https://www.dhipaya.co.th/en/product-detail-10-17-6.html

annual premium i presume for 15k to 18750 depending on covid cover or not seems good value- i know cover amount is not the highest but seems ok.

seems good hospital coverage and i like the fact you have a card to show which saves any hassles on admissions i guess / hope

thoughts guys?

anyone used or have experience ?

From the website:

"Only for whose age between 15 - 70 year old."

What will you do when you become 71? Move to another insurance which then will not cover pre-existing conditions?

"Maximum expense per illness or injury": from 15 to 50: 120.000 Bt and from 50 to 70: 65.000 Bt.

You think this seems ok? Really? Who is paying the rest?

Will stop here.

You get what you pay for.

Costs depend on which hospital and which prcedure. Any major surgery will be more than the 65k.

My insurance (in Europe) covers 2 Million EURO annually (which is 185 times more than the 400k annual coverage) without any limit for most of the illnesses or injury.

Cost is around 80.000 Baht a year at the age of 60, which is around 5 times the premium.

I suggest you go to an insurance broker for further consultation. I am out of here.

These should be of assistance. Health insurance in Thailand is very expensive for what you get. If you're on a budget I'd suggest getting a policy that would pay enough to patch you up in the event of an accident so you can get back home for treatment.

Yes, you can go home and use the NHS:

My plan was to return to the UK if I needed any major treatment but it does not always work.  Some conditions rule out flying and then there is the things like covid that almost shut down world travel.

Returning to the UK for serious medical issues has always been a questionable strategy.

In practice it's probably going to be a 24 hour journey door to door and to do that your going to need to be in pretty good health to start with.

part of the ground based airline staff job is to keep a close eye out for anybody who looks unfit to travel for whatever reason.they can and will deny you boarding if you look unwell,en route landings due to medical emergency's are not cheap.

I think if it's a long term degenerative condition that has been identified your plan has some merit but for anything else that you show any signs of symptoms of you are probably going to be identified and denied boarding.

I don't think there is any clear cut right or wrong answer to this problem particularly when you're over 70 and medical insurance of any type becomes very difficult to find.

If your over 70 and have pre existing medical conditions it's close to impossible to find anybody willing to provide any sort of cover in thailand at any price.

it's something that nags at the back of my mind from time to time.

at present I'm far enough from 70 and in good enough health for it not to be much of a concern to me but I bet I'm not the only one here who thinks about this issue occasionally and then brushes it out of their mind for the time being.

$1,850 e.g. THB 65,000, won't go very far in a private hospital. Phyathai Sriracha is 4,600 Baht a day for the room without any money for treatment, medications, surgery, etc.

There are policies covering upwards of THB 1,000,000.
