Sad news but prob be about tarts or bahts being in Pattaya. Not good for Pattayas family image or retirement image as all over Fbook n news channels now.

I'd be quite cautious if I was in Patts right now until this is dealt with.

Why ?

You fear a serial killer on loose ?

Maybe, but unlikely.

I think you are correct.  There is an explanation behind this.   I doubt its an untargetted shooting of a random old guy on a motocycle.

Possible, but in general that does not happen in Pattaya.  If it did happen, then 70 year olds would be exercising caution.

Agreed. There's almost certainly something behind this. Probably a lady somehow. Not that that makes it ok, of course.

Plenty of special forces folks in Patts could join this team.

Wrong and totally out of order

This morning the killer has turned himself in to the police and blamed it on a road rage incident......

Is there is any info on what exactly happened in this "road rage" incident?

I didn't have the impression that @rog555was indicating that the victim was at any fault, particularly as he was reportedly shot from behind while riding on scooter.

Probably drug related

Even if the shooter was not using drugs at the time, this has become the go-to excuse for illegal and evil behavior. The public outcry will be used by the usual crowd as additional reasons to stop legal weed sales.

I never met the man, RIP

As there were just two people involved who knew exactly what went on and one is now dead do you really think the killer is going to give the honest truth about it....what I do know from being directly involved with Neils sister back in the UK he is from a quite wealthy family here and although still in custody he is attempting financial compensation as a means of escaping justice.....my instinct says when the press interest dies down he will be granted bail and released to do what exactly I am not sure at this moment....I have my doubts to be honest if he will serve any prison sentence in the future with his connections....but I hope I,m wrong.

Hope this is not the case as it would be a terrible look for Thailand.

Only if the news goes international. @petermik if the sister wants any sort of justice, and she rightly should, perhaps advise her to seek out the media in the UK.

If the story remains one sided story from a connected assailant, as you pointed out, it will fade away with little local media coverage but if the UK media start sniffing around it becomes a bigger story and the fall out may damage tourism if justice is not seen to be served.

Already heavily reported in the UK press.

Just read the Thai guys account of what happened. Shocking English guy used his horn, did he damage the car. As the argument escalated English guy backed off but sounds that was not enough for the Thai ( lose of face ) . Murdered him. If connected as mentioned. Money will talk. Thai culture.  I have personal knowledge of this up in the sticks.

The whole incident is shocking and surprising.

A minor issue about not turning a car fast enough, horn being used 'loudly', quickly builds into direct face to face confrontation between a thai man and a retired falang.   Somehow it ends with retired guy being shot 4 times.

I hope the full details emerge and we come to understand the events.  And something is learnt from it.

I'm not far off 70 and plan a much longer life.   Guns in civilians hands seems a big issue in several countries.    Anger control, thai Face, all needs to be examined and progress made.

Sorry for the dead guy and those who knew him.

I hope something good emerges.  Not a gloss-over, forget style, outcome.
