Texas Smokehouse, darkside.

Recommended Posts

Lunch at Texas Smokehouse on soi Siam country club.  The first time I went I thought prices were high, but found out portions were huge.

One brisket plate with additional sides of mac & cheese and smoked sausages is more than the three of us could eat.  Some of everything came home.  Their BBQ sauce isn't very good but the meats are so good they don't need it.

So, for expats from Texas, inside a half mile of this section of the soi we can enjoy:

  • A chicken fried steak or a grand slam breakfast at Route 66
  • Smoked brisket, ribs, sausage and chicken here
  • Some of the best Tex-Mex I've had in Thailand at Taco House.

And it's all a 45 minute drive from home, which was how long my daily commute each way was when I was working in Texas.

what were the prices like?

For example the brisket plate shown is 499Baht, comes with beans, slaw, potato salad, bread, onions, dill pickles and sauce.  They have other combo plates including a monster one at 799Baht with all the meats and sides.

I remember adding two smoked sausages was 100 and SMLs are 75.

Are the owners Texans?

I don't know.  Only Thai staff there when we went.

I am curious if you have ever eaten at Smokin' Joes on Soi Lenkee.

If so can you compare the two please?

If not can you compare the two please?  555

Though I am not from Texas, I am from California, and we BBQ a lot there too.

I go to Smokin' Joes about once a month and find it to be the best BBQ I have had in Pattaya (and surrounding areas).

Smokin' Joes is quite good, though I haven't been there since before covid.  I believe their now combined into the same building with Steak & Co?  They used to have their own place and open for breakfast as well.  They did more individual meals where as Texas Smokehouse does multi-person platters.

Maybe the kitchen is combined behind the scenes.

Ya, the used to have a very good breakfast but last I recall they got rid of it.

Smokin' Joes does a few multi-person platters but it is limited for sure.

Thanks for the reply.

IMO, and I am an American.

Smokin Joes was not bad at all, but it was more of a British BBQ place (sweeter sauce and spare ribs). I have not been in years.

As an American from Chicago I prefer Baby Back Ribs with a tangier sauce or even no sauce.

I have seem Baby Backs available from Sloanes.

I have never bought and do not like the pic.

I have also seen them for sale at Smokey Mountain (formerly Prime) and these look good.

Better to cook them yourself.

Smokin' Joe's 1/2lb brisket plate.

SmokinJoesBrisket.jpgI'd say the late lamented Texas Smokehouse did a better brisket, but this was good.  The sides here are better and the BBQ sauce miles better.  I'll come here again.  Unfortunately I don't drive in central Pattaya (or Bangkok), so I can't easily get the family here.

I also could immediately see the reason for the other place's demise.  This plate, which was a big meal, was 645Baht.  Not inexpensive but the quality was worth it.  The platter at Tx Smokehouse that fed three of us was 499Baht.  Can't stay in business if you're giving away your product.

I am a fan of Smokin Joe's as well and eat there sort-of regularly.  I have exactly what you mentioned - the 1/2# Brisket plate.

They are having quality control issues, IMO.  I ate there a few nights ago and the brisket was tough, and clearly over cooked.  Nothing like the usual brisket that you can gently cut with your fork.

Their snack bread is also quite good.  They don't accept credit cards (allegedly because of their "cc machine" problems), so if you are taking people, remember lots of cash!

I had exactly the same experience with the Brisket during my visit last month, sides and sauce were good, but could not overcome the toughness of the brisket.

I guess I lucked out.  The boss must have been in the day I went.
