‘Go Forth and Arrest’ implores Banglamung police commander

At around 5:00am on Friday around 80 police and volunteers who had drawn the early morning short straw lined up in the darkness in front of Banglamung police station to listen to an address by Police Colonel Somnuk, the commander of the station. Colonel Somnuk made it clear to his officers he is not a happy man, stressing that in recent weeks the crime level, especially those involving people with illegal firearms, has risen to the point where the flow charts and statistics from the Banglamung area do make pleasant reading. He has therefore given his men three days to go forth and turn their control area upside down and inside out in the search for miscreants. The officers wiped the collective sleep from their eyes and, suitably remonstrated, are now combing the mean streets of Pattaya with the aim of reducing crime to more acceptable levels.

Does make me think though.

With thailand being hit by the economic slowdown, poor exports and less tourists. Is crime going to be on the rise?

In places like patts it must be tempting when times are hard, to extract a few thousand baht from some pissed up monger on beach road at 4am.
