If you want to fly direct from Heathrow EVA Air cannot be beaten for good quality service and non direct from Heathrow Etihad wins hands down again good quality service.

IMHO, I'd steer clear of China Airlines. They have one of the highest plane crash frequencies of any major airline. They do have good airfares, but their planes tend to fall out of the sky a little too often. Check out the site www.planecrashinfo.com for some interesting statistics.

Wow, that's insane. According to their page, China Airlines is in dead last for accident rate out of 88 airlines in the sky. It's the worst airline to take in terms of accidents. I hope I don't die on my flight this Tuesday.

I hate to be the barer of bad news, but I flew man-cdg-bkk with air france this time last year and it was the worst flights i've had in my life to anywhere.

We didnt get the seats we booked. The plane was a jumbo and must have been 30 years old. They say free booze. You'd be lucky to get one drink from the unhelpful stewardesses. I am only 5 foot 6 and I didnt have any legroom (a problem i've never had before or since). The food was crap & the entertainment showed about 3 films that were all about 5 years old. never again for me. I always fly etihad now. Far superior.

Hopefully they will have the new planes in service before you fly. Sleeping aint easy on those planes. I took two xanax and still only managed a couple of hours kip. Normally one of those bad boys will knock me out for 5 hours +

My preference is for ANA or JAL.

ANA flies the Boeing 777 which is new, has large reclining seats, personal monitors for movies and the BEST stewardesses. HOT Jap babes. Drooooooool.

Emirates is by far the best airline in the world. If you can get to London from AMS you could fly to Dubai and then onward to BKK. KLM, Air France...horrible. Emirates goes out of their way to make sure you flight is comfy. Not to mention the hot towel they bring you before and during the flight to freshen your face up. The meals are 5 star in economy. They leave shaving cream, razors, mouth wash in the over sized batrooms to freshen up anytime. They will plug your laptop in for you to charge. They also have a new jumbo jet that is state of the art. Never ANY complaints when flying with them. Drinks are always free and the on demand is crazy with like 100 channels. As far as price, you may pay a little more, but is so worth it. My ticket for May 15,2009 from Dubai to BKK was only $530 USD compared to Thai at $765.

Emirates are very good but Etihad tops it for me. I think they are as good as Emirates but cheaper. Flight times are about the same but Etihad only goes from London and Manchester. Worst airline I've flown with is Kuwaiti, never again.

Emirates from Bham for me instead of LHR seems an unreal bargain at GBP 399.90 in 3 weeks time, the alternative nearest for a direct being Thai from LHR for GBP 528.00. I have never flown one stop to Bangkok before always direct but at that price and given the positives I have read about Emirates for once I am seriously thinking about this one, and also as Bham is so much nearer for me than trekking down to LHR and back.

What's the Dubai stop over like? It's a choice of one 7 hr followed by a 6 hr flight with interval or a 12 hour direct which I must say is nicer in many ways.. but quite a price difference even to Thai and my usual BA is like GBP 787.00 for the same flight.... with the rubbish exchange this is a bargain saver from Emirates.. and probably worth the stop..
