JQ30 Delays into Melbourne

Just a heads up, I work at Melbourne Airport and am flying out soon on Jetstar and noticed JQ30 from Bangkok was delayed 8 hrs today and similarly the other day, may want to factor that into your travel plans. Personally I'm spending my last 2 nights in BKK so if any delays, I just party longer there. Hopefully the situation will improve.

My company does Thai Airways, no delays there! 555

The combination of Dnata (assume they do handling) having insufficent staff, but Jetstar having problems with 787's being out of service. One has been waiting months for parts from the USA to fix, one had a bird strike etc etc, one hit ground equipment (as an ex amployee don't start me on that topic, what happens when you outsource)

I am very wary of Jetstar: last trip Melbourne-BKK return in March it was about 3 hours late on MEL-BKK flight and one hour late on return.

The pricing when you open the booking web site looks attractive but then every screen is an additional cost - baggage, seat selection, meal, ability to change date and so on. The end price is nothing like the opening one. Need to compare the total price with a full-service carrier.

For this reason, last trip in March I flew Singapore Air via SIN; bang on time both ways.

ThaiAirways are now back after Covid shutdown, they will probably be my choice even if a bit more expen$ive.

In the last 6mths every Jetstar flight I had (6 of them in total) were cancelled, luckily these were ex Gold Coast so I was able to train it over to Brisbane and get on flights with Jetstar reimbursing my train cost.
I don’t hold a grudge with Jetstar or any others, it’s just the volatility in most industries at the moment due to lack of staff and critical equipment/parts.

Looking at June next year. Qantas 1400+ (via Sydney no thanks) I think jetstar via Melbourne with seats, bags etc was close to 1200. Singapore airlines with meals, seats, (although non refundable) was under 900 via singapore. Easy choice.

  • 2 weeks later...

Jetstar have been in the news alot lately with cancelled flights with a don't give a fuck attitude. Only last week long delays coming back from Bali and Hawaii reported on the news. One couple have to wait 6 days for the next flight from Bali and another couple reported 14 days from Hawaii ( unsure if that is true )

I fly out on 18th to Bkk with JS and praying to fuck it won't be delayed or worse  cancelled. Have flown with JS over 20 times to Bkk and only once it was cancelled and had to wait 2 days for my return to Melbourne.

They reported that the 3 Dreamliners that were out of action should be back in service this week, here's hoping, I fly out next week!

On news last night about JS , apologize for the delays and they now have all international planes back from repairs etc..

Jetstar's string of issues is officially over, with the airline's fleet finally back to normal after a lightning strike and damage from Runway debris forced two Boeing 787s out of action for more than a month.
"We plan to have spare aircraft, to lose two aircraft in such quick succession made a significant impact on our operation," Jetstar engineer Greg Evans said.
"It had nothing to do with the pandemic. It was kind of just bad luck in a way that these things happened at the same time."
The airline says it has solved the issue by hiring 1500 extra staff across the Qantas Group.
Jetstar now has fewer flights and more spare planes available, which will mean higher prices and more expensive Christmas travel plans.

Is the maintenance done in Manila still ?

^ Yeah, just spoke to a Jetstar engineer, all Dreamliners back in operation.

Fly out this time next week, am at work now waiting for the aircraft to come onto the bay, but looks like it will not be leaving on time.

Well, just copped the mother of all delays. Diverted to Alice Springs for medical emergency, now the aircraft has technical issues, waiting for a spare 787 from Melbourne to pick us up, been stranded on the plane for 8 hours and they finally just let us in the terminal, but not enough seats.

^ Yeah, that was the flight I was on. What wasn't reported was that there was nearly a riot when we 1st heard we couldn't leave the aircraft, one girl was even arrested and cannot fly for 6 months now, good luck getting home to Melbourne from Alice Springs!
