This trip has been absolutely crap first klebsiella problems with airbnb and now this. to make matters worse I'm in the uk and not Thailand as of course symptoms started when i got home. So emergency doctor has me on doxycycline and i have an appointment with the gum clinic on Tuesday. No relief after one day of treatment is there anything I can do to control the pain until I get to my appointment on Tuesday for injections I've been taking prep so hopefully no hiv but definitely have some sort of chlamyidia ect just pain right now no discharge been about 4-5 days for symptoms to start.

in the uk a lot are now appointment only will only let you book by phone and closed on weekends bank holidays. basically nhs saw a area to make cuts and did it but no gp will do with a std so you are screwed for treatment for a while. thankfully doxycycline will start the treatment and the gum clinic will sort the injections on Tuesday

That's a shame - perhaps, seeing as antibiotics are so easily bought in Thailand over the counter, anyone who has barebacked a girl there should get some before leaving just to make sure, as a precaution. Of course, better not to bareback in the first place, although I know it's tempting.

You say to her you have a health issue, a std that showed upon your return home, and are receiving treatment for.  Your not angry, upset, or looking to blame anyone.  Your concern is for her well being, and to strongly recommend she get checked, medication if needed and be safe.

No it's likly not HIV or a virus if I'm not mistaken. I'm no medical person but it sounds like a bacterial STD to me, burning when you pee.

Cranberry juice can help. Check the label to make sure it's as much cranberry as possible and not flavored grape juice or something.

The reason it helps is because it raises the PH in the urine which helps against bacteria, drink as much as you can stand to. This with the doctors antibiotics should help you as for what  you are asking. Yes it hurts. The common expression pissing razor blades isn't far off.

Yes different antibiotics can be more effective but you can buy one or two of them that work in Thailand as I've said in other threads just in case. Or take as a PreP, up to you. Or piss razor blades if that's more fun.

Edit: I know you don't want to drink a lot right now and feel the pain more often pissing, but you will be happy as it decreases and isn't torturous anymore. The same kind of STD is one of the only gifts my Ex ever gave me. So no PreP was taken or thought to be necessary by me.

sorry it made a duplicate post instead of edit above

Not that it matters much at this point, but I think doxycycline is not the best for an asian STD. I think it isn't strong enough and often the Asian versions are resistant to the common antibiotics. I don't feel like googling for you right now but keywords might be superbug STD or something like that. I think a antiobiotic that begins with C was better if it doesn't want to go away quickly.

It doesn't change my thinking on drinking a big bottle of real cranberry juice to try to help if the Doxy doesn't work for you.

gum clinic

Just in case there is one other person who, like me, didn't know what this means.

Quote

A sexual health or genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic specialises in sexual health, and can provide tests and treatment for many STIs.

hahahhaha.  Learn something new.

You're probably think of Ciprofloxacin (or commonly called Cipro), kills all kinds of bacterial issues. Do note that many stds are resistant to it so it's not a magic bullet.

In some ways it is unfortunate you are back in the UK.   The Soi Buakhao clinics are extremely adept at treating all the local STDs and amazingly fast.

A 1g injection of Ceftriaxone combined with Azithromycin and Doxycycline tablets twice a day for a week was the Thai treatment, but what really made the difference was a little dark red tablet that is not available in the UK.   It turns your pee dark orange/red and seems to turn it into anaesthetic.   It should also be noted that the tablets were far higher dosage than would normally be given in the UK.   Within 12 hours all discharge had stopped and 24hrs no pain or symptoms.

Well done for taking Prep, as should most members of this board whilst enjoying the pleasures of Pattaya, combined with testing after any trip.

Yeah, last visit in one of those clinics on pattaya tai near bukao market for the clap: 1g of ceftriaxone while it should be 0,5 g, then given Tablets of Cefixime (WHY!?) and Erythromycin (why not zithromax?!)  that i all throwed away and bought zhithromax instead.

1200 baht bill :Laugh1:

Last time i go there, there are farang doctor in town who won't use a bazooka to kill a mosquito.

Edit : reading again your post, there were no name to be read for those dark red  pills?

Yes this is my thinking I am stuck to nhs protocols now and can get nothing without prescription. Thankfully gum clinic appointment is tomorrow and the doxycycline prescribed by the emergency doctor should help start bringing things down. The doses here are way smaller than Thailand but nothing I can do about it now

I don't know the name and cannot find the photo I took, but they were supplied loose in one or those small plastic zip bags they write the dosage on.    The tablets were a clear dark red capsule.  Pyridium is the closest I have come to it in google.   I might just buy some when I am next out there.

Also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, a G6PD deficiency, or liver disease as these conditions may cause unexpected complications requiring special adjustments to your treatment. Think it's best I stick to 30/500 as it won't complicate with my diabetes

Azithromycin is the name of the medicine inside, so you can get generic much cheaper than the brand name Zithromax or Z-pack. People might debate if generic is equal to the brand names. I think they are equal if they are not fake, although some slow release generics might release faster and not last as long as the brand name pills. Azithromycin is somewhat strong and Cipro is very strong. Some STDs are more resistant to even strong medicines, so it's important to use the most effective ones not just most strong.

Mstn with his helpful post mentioned the antibiotic with C I couldn't remember. The clinics that treat this often know how to get rid of if fast so the patient doesn't suffer long and does not spread it to other people.
