Just landed a few hours back. Room has the old smell. Apart from that it is really nice.

On my last trip in 2019 BC (before Covid) I stayed at empress for a few nights to check it out.  I was not that impressed, the photos on the Agoda website made it look much nicer than it actually was.  The rooms as mentioned as well as the halls/facilities feel run down.  The worst part was the Bed was creaky and noisy.  

One good point is the location right on the beach central and in the middle of the Baht bus rout was very nice.  Made transit much easier anywhere you would want to go. 

For the money I would rather have been in Areca.
