My Day Out at Burapha Golf and Resort

Played here in March.

Green Fee 1200 baht. Caddy and Cart Included.

A few hundred extra for Comp fee with Golf Society

Today was my first round playing with a Golf Bar in Pattaya this trip. I had initially planned on playing more with Golf Bars but today was the day that sort of put me on the path to convincing me that this isn't the way forward for me.

After reading piles of Covid Fear porn on PA in the lead up to my trip I had decided to avoid the mingling on a bus and risk getting Covid and put my money to hiring a car. This gave me the flexibility to drive myself to and from golf but it also opened up the ability for myself to book my own games.

Anyway I had tried playing with 1 large golf bar who had for some reason failed to reply to me after I tried contacting them from their allegedly updated website. Their loss not mine if that's how they want to run things

I had after failing with the first bar contacted Travellers Rest on SOI Lengkee who had been a bit more accommodating and had booked me in for today.

The first issue I noted when playing with the golf bars is the tee off time. Driving myself meant I had been teeing off at 0730 to 0800 and being done not long after 1000

That wouldn't be happening today as the tee off was at 1000. Arrived early to the course and the facility has a pretty old clubhouse but it does have 36 holes. I had played here in 2016 but only done 18 holes that day

Whilst waiting for the guys from Travellers Rest to arrive got some good practice in on the practice putting green as I wasn't going to make the same mistake as yesterday

Once the guys from Travellers Rest arrived I introduced myself and we found out we were going to be playing the C and D Loop Didn't bother me but plenty in the group were unhappy as allegedly the A and B loops are the "best" course at Burapha

When we got out there it turned out I hadn't played the C and D Loops before but had played the A and B loops as I didn't recognise anything all day

Due to the large field of over 40 playes a few groups got sent to tee of the C Loop and some of the D loop. I ended up at the D loop and found myself paired up with a guy from Korea and England in a 3 ball

As I play off 12 and having 87 off the stick isn't too much to be unhappy about even after starting slowly

Struggled on the front 9 as I was just getting frustrated playing some average golf on my part and coping with being out in the midday Thai sun which was absolutely cooking me today.

After the first 9 where I shot 48 off the stick I regrouped at the half way house and decided to not let the day deteriorate anymore. Walked onto the 10th tee and proceeded to smash the drive 50metres further than I had all day probably because I swung 20kmh quicker 555

Back nine was a lot better with a 39 off the stick

Highlight of the round was the first birdie of the trip on C2 the 11th a Par 5. Good drive away on the fairway 3 Wood up the middle left me a pitch of bang on 40metres

Now most people have a lot of issues at this distance but not me. I spent a session down the practice range at my home course last year learning how to hit a 40metre shot. So I step up with a lot of confidence that I am gonna hit this thing 38m to 42m depending on how it bounces on the green . Put it pin high 6 feet away and rolled the put at left edge and rolled it in

Lowlight would have been the 9th. Walked off with a 6 on a Long Par 4 when I found myself down near the green with a short pitch on for my 3rd. I gave myself a good chance of a par and lipped out the putt then compounded things by not looking or steadying myself properly at my tap in putt and missed it. Throwing shots away.

Finished the round with 33 Stableford points 12 out and 21 In. Nowhere near the prizes as the winning scores were in the low 40s

After shower drove back to Pattaya for Presentation and feed at Travellers Rest. After presentation was done and dusted it was just after 1600 and I was free to enjoy my evening

Made the mistake of playing with these things I picked up at the Golf Shop this round.

Did not lose a ball but it will be the only time I ever play with them

My caddy had a nightmare of a time trying to find my ball in the rough. If the yellow side wasn't exposed it was near on impossible to find the blue side of the ball

The other downside is it makes you dizzy watching it roll as you chip and putt it

It though was easy to spot in the air as it came off the club

The rest of them have been now going to be used for practice putting as the colour divide is useful for lining up your putt and then practicing getting a perfect roll on the ball as the equator stays still and doesn't wobble  when you strike the putt

Played here in March.

Green Fee 1100 baht. Caddy and Cart Included.

Cracking price as they are running a promotion on Wednesday and Thursday of 1100 all inclusive

When I had played here with Travellers Rest on the prior Thursday I had made a booking as I was leaving to come back and play the A n B loops of this 36 hole course

Got up in the morning and drove off from Pratmanak condo early with no rain in Pattaya present. Spent the trip up the highway in rain. Arrived at the course no rain but the course had been hit by overnight rain. Played my round not a drop of rain Got in car for the 30 min drive back to town and it started raining again

Fuck me you couldn't have scripted it better for me

Was some rather bizarre things that happened when I arrived I parked in the same spot as I had the week before. I pulled from the list of keys for a locker at random the same key I had the week early. I also got the same caddy I had the week before  though that was my fault as I recognised a good Caddy so had asked specifically for her.

After getting ready and paying the fees I headed out to the starter and had a short wait as my caddy was still putting her make up on I was told 555. I was just early so it was more a case of she was not here . Anyway a short time later my caddy arrived and was happy I had booked her as it had been a slow week for her so far with no booking since Sunday until me

Hot some putts on the practice green and off we went on the A loop. Now it was interesting playing these 18 holes today because I had played them before in 2016 but I could only remember some holes and others I had a blank look about

Good news was my Garmin Watch was back working today so one less distraction

As it was just me and my caddy and one Burapha Soi Dog in the group we had a lightening fast round of around in just over 2 hours today. The Burapha So dog who hangs around the course joined us on the 1st hole and loyally followed us around to the 9th hole getting 4km of exercise in before vanishing

As I play off 12 and having 86 off the stick isn't too much to be unhappy about although I feel it could have been better as after 7 or 8 holes I was going well then a double on the 9th just led me to a stretch of 6 or so holes which were poorly played where a few doubles were had and some shots got away before I got it back together to finish with 3 straight pars

Highlight of the round was the shot I hit on Par 4 13th that touched the sky. Teeing off from up on a hill over a water carry I had sprayed it right . Now we need up that far right we were nearly in Jungle. But we were also about 30 metres wide of the cart path . I get over there and assess my shot. With water running left up to the green and tree in front of me in the way for an aerial shot up the hile and a fairway bunker in the way for a sideways out shot I decided to try a punch under the tree with the 4 iron and even try and hit at the cart path for a bit of an extra springboard to get us up the fairway towards chipping range.

Anyway I have struck the ball well and kept it down . Only problem is it has hit the edge of the concrete path but in a bad way. The edge of the horizontal and the vertical of the path . The ball has then just ballooned straight up in the air and me and the caddie are looking for the ball with NFI where it had gone. After abiyt 6 seconds the thing thudded back to earth about 30 metres in front of me

The odds of pulling this shot off again were impossible. A centimetre further and it slips off the path up the green. A centimetre less and it probably hits where the earth has been washed away from the path in a Thai rain storm and comes back at me at a million miles an hour. Ended up with a 6 anyway

Lowlight would have been the way I drove the ball all day. Barely found a fairway all day whether that be going left or right For whatever reason I had come to the end of my form with the driver I was just having such a bad day with the driver I was straight down a driving range later this afternoon to sort some shit out as this wasn't gonna cut it going forward

Now I like this course and am thinking about whether to play it everytime I return going forward. It is something I will think about going forward as I want to play one course every trip just to "learn" the course and try and somewhat have a challenge I can set for myself repeatedly each trip rather than just walking on blind to course that you either don't know or don't know well enough you can shrug it off

It ain't a hard course but it ain't easy either. I would agree that the A n B loops are the best 2 on the course

Played here in August on a Wednesday

Green Fee 1500 baht Caddy and Cart Included

Near disaster on arrival. Proceed to the bag drop and waiting for the vehicle in front to be done when a caddy not looking reverses a golf cart straight st the side of the Rental Car

Head out on the course and play the D and C loops

Tee off and I am around in 3 hours 30 mins today as it is a promotion day so course is busy

As for my golf the handicap has slipped out to 14 so to shoot a 93 around here left me slightly frustrated. To be fair I played like a busted arse today and got away with it thanks to my putting

As for my game today the putting was quite good. One three putt for the round but was really reading the greens well and had the distance down well. Only 28 putts for the round. Shame it wasn't followed up by good tee and approach play

As for the rest of the skills.

Driver I didnt really hit well today again 3/10. Still going crazy right and getting frustrated with it. The work at the driving range straightens then out then the next day it was like I never went

Fairway Woods Not that great today. The rough here was a little tough

My Irons striking them much better

My chipping slightly better but not up to spec

My Bunkers seen me get lots of practice as I found plenty

My wedge play was ok. Not getting to hit enough though

Highlights of the Round was the par on the 1st on Cypress. Finally got a tee shot away good approach shot from long way out found me on the dance floor. Well struck putt but didn't go in for a regulation par 4

Lowlight was my play in general.

My score was not really reflection of how bad I was going. It was a struggle and my putting fixed multiple sins. Spent the day slightly distracted with issues involving signing paperwork and a TG on my mind didn't help the situation

Lost Ball tally was 2 wayward tee shot on the 5th found water on the 1st. It was a honking bad shot to do this .

Second one came from the over hot bunker shot on the 8th where I putt it OB with a nice skull out of the Greenside bunker

Course is in good condition and one I have neglected for too long. Well worth a visit

About a 35 minute drive from Central Pattaya

I much prefer A & B. I've only played C & D twice and I really don't want a 3rd visit. I will quite happily bribe the starter and hang around to get out on A & B.

I've played with some golf bars and whilst I enjoy the company I don't really like the arrangements. I get 5 shots and at my age I need to warm up properly. Golf bars tend to get you to the club in time for your tee time rather than give any leeway for a warm up. Which is fine if you get 20 shots and start bogey, bogey, double bogey, bogey. You're right on your handicap. I can't start like that. My day is over right there. I put a bottle on for a nearest the pin on one day and didn't even get thanked. In fact the winner of the bottle complained because it wasn't his brand! No problem mate, you take 1000 out of your pocket and buy a bottle of your brand next time. Ungrateful bastard.

Hoping I get to play A & B this time, good quality track and very playable.
