Which printer

I need to buy a new printer, of the printer/scanner type. I have used Epson, Canon, Brother  and HP in the past. Poor quality experiences with HP.
What is currently the best quality of this type on the market here in Thailand?  Thinking of going to TukCom to get one soon.
My high quality photo printers (think pigment/archival) have been Epson, but this can be ordinary desk jet type, just for day to day used as well as scanning. I want not the cheapest, but the most durable and reliable!

In recent times I've only used the big multifunctions you see in offices, prior to that good experiences with Canon and Brother home office printers.

Check the cost of replacement ink/cartridges before you make your choice, they will be a bigger expense than the initial printer cost over the lifetime of the printer.

No one prints photos anymore since they’re so cheap on demand straight off the cloud or a USB.  I’ve used Brother monochrome laser printers for the last 15 years, they’re sold as a loss leader because they make their money on the toner cartridges etc.  If and when the drum needs replacing do NOT buy a replacement drum just replace the whole printer and get another ten years out of it.  Don’t buy official toners the cheap compatible ones are just as good.

Don’t buy any inkjet refillable things, that’s 90s tech that is just a scam to get you to buy the replacement color refills.

If you have a modern iPhone that’s  going to scan stuff better than a printer/scanner will anyway. Plus automatic text recognition. It’s even built into the most recent ios now. If you’re on an old phone then you can use the Adobe Scan app.

Canon E510 has served me well.  Cheap-ish to buy (ages ago, but I recall about THB 2,800) from OfficeMate, and the cartridges last a very long time.  In daily use; excellent quality printing and scanning - colour/black and white; plain/photographic paper.

A couple of years ago I switched from Epson inkjet printers to a Samsung (HP) laser printer. My issue with the inkjet was that I just wasn't using it enough to keep the nozzles from clogging up. It wasn't so bad with the older Epson I had that used printer cartridges--expensive, but not so difficult to swap out a set of cartridges to get the printer working again.

In my foolishness, I bought an Epson inkjet with an ink tank setup hanging off the side. That one, after several trips into the service center to get the nozzles cleaned, I've just given up on.

I finally bit the bullet a couple of years ago and bought a home laser printer. It's not the fastest printer, and the initial cost was a lot higher, but the printer prints when I want it to print no matter how long it sits unused between print jobs.

Inkjets are fine if you use them regularly but they get very expensive if they aren't regularly used.

I have always good experience with Brother printers. But always check how much the ink costs , as they will sell you a printer cheap or what looks like a good bargain but the on going cost of ownership is high.

Try and find a site similar to this Cheapest Printers for Ink Costs - Consumer Reports to give you an idea

i have the canon pixma pro-100, great printer for quality photos and there's good 3rd party ink cartridges you can get for refills.  Unfortunately I think the printer has been discontinued.

I would stay away from any HP printer.  Too many issues with those.

Spot on the inkjets.  I have a portable canon I use when I travel because it is compact, light and runs on a battery if need be.  Trouble is it sometimes goes a couple of months before it’s used again.  The thing just pisses away ink when it cleans the print head; luckily it’s a reimbursable expense.  Cannot of any other reason I’d want an ink jet printer.

WiFi connected Brother multifunction laser units at home and the office which I’m quite happy with.

I'm fed up with Inkjets!  I don't print much at all but there will be rare times in a year when I must print something, then I find out that my inkjet has clogged up and won't print.  My Thailand Pass is a good example, I just printed this off and the QR code is a mess!  Even though I have been printing something off every so often just to keep the jets clean it has not worked.

So I am getting a laser in the new year, leaning towards a Brother as I had one when living in the US.

I've been using a Fuji-Xerox color laser for the last 5 years. It only cost about $400 and has been brilliant.  Still on the original four toner cartridges after all this time.

It's a combination copier/scanner/printer/fax,  with both USB connection and stand-alone WiFi capability, and can also work to/from a plug in USB stick.

I don't know if you can still get them, but I definitely recommend it.

Before buying a printer check the prices of replacement ink. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new printer than replace the ink

I bought some random printer from Lazada. After printing 100 pages it run out of juice. Look at the internet and found out, that it would cost me 5 Baht per page if I was about to buy new cartridge or whatever it needs. So ever since I print everything in the shop across the road, that charges me 0.5 Baht per page and printer sits under my table unused.

Terrible scam these printers.
