Just another hard luck story?...

well that just about tells ya to trust absolutely NOBODY dont it..??..my mate has been over there a few times and he told me to trust nobody, you take a girl back to your room, put them straight into the bathroom to shower with the door closed, then lock up all your valuables into the safe (thats if there is one provided) and lock it up...remember these girls do this everyday to boost their income...as myself and three mates hit Pattaya in june '09, i will be sure that each of us watch our backs... :D

Well don't get paranoia over it - most girls are pretty honest actually. You treat them right, they treat you right in almost all cases. There are thieves everywhere, but up to now nothing was stolen from me in Thailand.

If you don't trust anybody, your life will not be much fun I think.

I always tried to get the girls in without leaving their ID "to save face" but you have shown exactly why it is needed.

No BG 'saves face' by not leaving their ID card at reception. They're hookers ffs.

I've never once been robbed in 22 years of living in and visiting LOS. I have a mate who was robbed on his first night there. I think a lot of it is that I tend to not bother with FL'ers that much and take other precautions such as only taking out what I intend to spend. Rolling up my trousers from the top and placing them near to the shower door when I shower thus making it very difficult for anybody to access my wallet. Of course we all have those crazy nights where we lose the plot and I guess to that degree I have just been lucky.

In a way look on the bright side. It was only a camera and phone. Maybe costs you a little but you still have your passport , access to cash and your willy still attached. Could have been much worse.

Thanks a lot for posting the warning though , a good wake up for everyone.

key rules with a FL (and others) ID and safe. Trying to stay with the same girl, is in those cases also an advantage.

sorry to hear what happend to you.

I always stay at a hotel where you have to leave the id card, The Mercure hotel is good as the reception ring you to see if everything is ok before the give the id card back.

also I make sure my money and phone go in the safe as soon as i get back to the room.

Does anyone know a good place to get a dirt cheap mobile phone and a good basic digital camera at low prices anywhere in Bangkok or Pattaya?

Either MBK or PanTip in Bangkok :GoldenSmile1:

That's where I would go!

Not sure where to recommend in Pattaya.

Sorry to hear you got robbed, that has always been one of my greatest fears when with Hooker's either over here in the US or in Thailand, my buddy in the Navy said every time they would port in Pattaya that at least one sailor would come back to the boat with a bad story about being drugged and waking up a victim, one guy even got his pants jacked so he couldn't leave the room to go report it, that would really suck...I can't imagine!

Well best of luck to you!

The real bummer is that the phone was a company mobile phone. I will have to try and explain to my boss what I was doing in Thailand when I told everyone that I had gone "skiing"....and the circumstances in which I lost the phone...a hooker took it whilst I was asleep!

What?!

You think mobile phones don't get lost etc at skiing venues?

Surely you can come up with a believable story that doesn't involve divulging your being in Thailand.

What is amazing is that the cops actually DID something.

Here if you call up the police to tell them you were robbed of anything less then $50,000 they pretty much tell you "well, that sucks, ummm... if we see it we will tell you".

I know what I should have done but as I said if you come to Thailand too often you may just get complacent.

But the police taking it seriously when this sort of thing happens all the time was a real surprise. I am just waiting for that call from the victims support unit! :001_Sawasdee:

About 7 years ago in BKK I got complacent and a freelancer I picked up at Nana Plaza tried that on me but I woke up and caught her at it. I called the hotel Security to escort her out of the room. They turned her over to the BiB and I had to go down to the station to fill out paperwork. I left three days later and they were still holding her but I never found out what happened after that.

Most likely when it came to trial it was dismissed as I was not there. Live and learn, just do not get complacent,

Why has this story resurfaced again?? I read this story a few months ago. It's a copy and paste job by the OP

Maybe the OP did it again? Sounds probable more than possible.

Didn't even know the girls name or what she looked like so made a dangerous situation for himself in the club where he foolishly thought he could talk her into returning his gear.

If it's a company phone, they will probably ask for a police report for any alleged or real theft so you better start thinking more creatively but I don't hold out much hope of that based on actions and reactions already stated. Once you get caught in a lie...

Thirteen times in LOS and labelled an 'Advanced Pattaya Warrior'? WTF?

Better stay at home and learn to live your life vicariously through the acts of others IMHO.

get girls from gogo, beer bar so you can go back to the mamasan if you have a problem, or go to hotels where they check the girls ID writing info down etc like pattaya bay resort.

Ok guy's what are we gonna learn from this? I've had my share of freelancers but seems to me they are the trouble makers for the most part .If a bar girl or gogo girl did this you could go back to the bar and find her. I only do the freelancer when she's so stunning I can't resist and never too late in the evening to keep my wits about me. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Dude, can't be a dumbass when playing with fire. I have done freelancers on a regular basis for 10 years- never had a problem. Maybe it is because I learned my mongering skills in Tijuana Mexico, where if you fuck up, you don't just lose some electronic crap. Instead, they cut your throat.

Feel lucky you didn't lose more.

After coming to Thailand 12 times (this being my 13th trip) and almost always going with freelancers rather than bar girls, I guess it had to happen some time.... I got rolled last night.

I am always very careful locking everything up in the room but I guess you get complacent after a while.

I picked this girl up in Spicey disco last night. After Spicey club closed around 5 or 6am she suggested that we go on to another club across the road. I don't remember the name and I had never been there before but there were a lot of people there and the place was rocking.

By the time we got back to the room I was dog tired. I put my money away in my luggage, and the luggage was attached by cord to a fixed object in the room. But for some reason I did not lock away my phone and camera like I normally do.

I woke up about midday and she was still there but then I fell asleep again and when I woke up at 3pm she had split....taking my camera and phone with her.

The hotel told me to to go Lumpini police station and they filled out a report for me in Thai. I then asked if they were going to come to the hotel. They said they would. Yeah right, I thought!

Anyway I headed back to the hotel and asked security if they had any CCTV cameras and to my surprise they did and started fast forwarding through the tapes from the cameras outside the lifts in reception and on my floor.

It was painfully hard work because I could not remember the time when I had come back to the hotel and of course I didn't know when she had left.

Then an even bigger surprise 2 of the boys in brown turned up in their full uniform and regalia and joined in watching the tapes. Heck they were taking this thing seriously!

After a while the police left saying that I should let them know if they found the photos. Eventually the security guys found the photos with us arriving at 9.30am and her leaving at 2.30pm. I phoned the police and they said that I should take the tape to the police station tomorrow evening.

I also noticed that she had left behind a few long hairs in the bed and she had even smoked a cigarette and left it in the ashtray in the bathroom. It seems that this was just an opportunistic theft and that as I was still sleeping she thought why not help herself to the stuff in my jeans. However the police said that they did not think that it would be worthwhile taking finger prints from the cigarette and the ashtray and he laughed when I suggested whether they had a DNA database.

So I don't think I will be getting anything back. I phoned my mobile and it had been switched off and she would need to know the code in order to switch it on again.

The only thing that I could think of was to go back to the same club for a couple of nights to see if she turns up there.

It was really bizarre but when I was looking at the video monitor in reception with the police that a small crowd gathered, both falang men and Thai girls to see what was happening and offering their advice.

One guy laughed though when I said that I would re-visit the club. I would be wasting my time he said and one Thai girl suggested that the girl would already be up country some where now.

It was really strange seeing the footage of the girl and me walking into the reception and then straight into the lifts past the security guy...me not bothering to ask the girl to register her ID card. I felt like screaming at the screen 'Why don't you get her to leave her ID card'. :D Then there were the photos of her leaving on her own.

I know what I should have done but as I said if you come to Thailand too often you may just get complacent.

But the police taking it seriously when this sort of thing happens all the time was a real surprise. I am just waiting for that call from the victims support unit!

No BG 'saves face' by not leaving their ID card at reception. They're hookers ffs.

Maybe he was thinking about his own 'face'?

You are in Pattaya, you are a farang, you are going to your hotel room in the wee small hours of the morning with someone scandalously dressed, stunningly beautiful and unbelievably young... what part of this match do you think you are 'hiding' from from the hotel staff by NOT getting her ID card checked at the front desk?

Late update – Theft at Nana hotel

After returning to the nightclub (Spicy, on Rongmuang) the following night where I had met the Thai girl, who stole my camera and phone…and unfortunately singling out the wrong girl to the security guards…I return again the next night to the same night club for another go.

This time there was no mistake. It was her…the silly moose had returned back to the same nightclub. It was dark in the nightclub but from 10 metres away she recognised me straightaway and almost jumped into the air with complete shock and surprise. Then she quickly turned around to show her back to me and I could see her muttering to herself in panic and fighting the temptation to look back to see if I was still watching. She even half covered face with her hands. It was almost comical to see her reaction.

The adrenaline was flowing but I decided it was best not to approach her just in case she had someone working with her and immediately rushed outside the club. The head of security was not there and I had problems getting the security guard who was at the door to take me seriously. The police officer who I had reported the matter to at the police station had told me to phone him on his personal mobile if I saw her again. Unfortunately the bitch had taken my phone and I hadn’t bought a new one. But I spoke to a falang guy outside the club and he agreed to help saying that he had also been a victim of theft.

The police officer had told me that I could call him on his mobile ’24 hours’ but it soon became clear when he answered that he was not so keen to take my call at 3am in the morning. His best advice was to take the girl to Lumpini police station. I kept explaining to him that there was no way that she would voluntarily go and I didn’t think I could physically force her. Eventually the officer said that he would come over to the club but he would have to find out where the club was and he rang off. I found out the exact address of the club and phoned back. This time I spoke to a woman who I assumed was his girlfriend or wife. She said that he was on his way. Really?!

I went back to speak to the security guards outside the club. There were 5 of them in total in the club, some wearing black jackets with ‘Military Police’ written on the back. However, they seemed to be taking the whole matter very casually. I said that I would buy them all a drink if they agreed to help me and this seemed to improve their cooperation. 1000 baht of drinks later and they offered me a stool outside the entrance to the club itself in the foyer to sit and wait for this girl to come out.

20 minutes later the head of security suggested that I should go inside to look for her and he would accompany me. He ushered me into the club and followed me. I immediately thought this was not a good idea. The club was dark and there was me walking around with a security guard on each shoulder. I circled the club quickly but could not see her and went back to the door. By this time the police officer had turned up wearing civilian clothes and the security guards were now taking the matter very seriously indeed as they realised that this officer was a fairly high ranker and had come out in the middle of the night.

The police officer rolled his eyes when I told him that we had toured the club and could not see her. He looked badly in need of some sleep and felt a bit sorry that I had dragged him out of bed. He said that I should get the security guards to get the girl’s ID as he had already spoken to the guard’s about this. He then stomped off home. I pressed a 500 baht note into his palm – I felt that it was the least that I could do. After all would a police officer in the UK get out of bed when he was off duty?.

I secretly felt that there was a high chance that the girl had seized her opportunity and f led when I and the security guards toured the dark nightclub. However, I was prepared to see this one out and resumed my position on the stool in the foyer for the next 2.5 hours until the club closed – watching pretty girl after pretty girl walk out.

The security guards became sarcastic as we neared the end of the night saying “You think lady still there?”. Eventually I looked inside and only the staff were left clearing up. This was a golden second chance to find her and it had evaporated. She now knows that I am likely to return to the nightclub at any point in the future and also that the security guards may be on to her, I doubt whether she would return there for a very long time. I would need to look for her in other late night clubs and bars in Bangkok .

I had stayed 3 nights longer in Bangkok than I intended because of this problem. The hotel in Bangkok was almost 2.5 times the price of the one that I should have been staying in Pattaya (1500 baht versus 600 baht) so I was wasting money. The following morning I collected a CD from the hotel of the CCTV footage showing the girl entering the hotel, getting out of the lifts on my floor and leaving the hotel. It had taken a lot of effort and time to get the hotel to do this. I printed off the best colour photos of the girls face (there were not great but they would give some chance of recognising her again) and took it to the police station along with the ashtray that the girl had stubbed out her cigarette in.

Sitting in his 2nd floor office in Lumpini station the police officer seemed genuinely impressed by my efforts. The CCTV footage unfortunately did not show a good close up of her face and the police officer seemed reluctant to take fingerprints from the ashtray – it was now almost 3 days after - however finally agreed to do it. It obviously involved some cost. I got the impression that unless I knew the identity of the girl then the police were not prepared to put the effort or money in to finding her. However I had done all that I could.

That afternoon I finally travelled to Pattaya as I didn’t think staying in Bangkok any longer was going to make any difference.

A week later I returned to Bangkok as I had originally planned, but a day early. I went back to the same club two nights running however of course she was not there. Having bought drinks on the previous visit the officers kept pressurising me to buy them drinks or to tip them which I resisted. I also spent an afternoon on the electronics floor at the MBK shopping center. This was a very useful experience as I saw 10 different stalls selling second hand copies of my same phone model. So I knew the chance of tracing my phone was non-existent. I alos learnt that I could replace my same camera (new) and phone (second hand) models for about 13500 baht.(about 270 UK pounds).

Maybe I shouldn’t have spent money on this (printing colour photos, copying CDs, taxi fares, buying drinks/tips for security guards/police, staying on in Bangkok) and more importantly wasting so much time - time that I should have been spent enjoying myself whilst on holiday.

I should get a little money back from my insurance policy especially as the police officer was willing to provide his mobile number and personal email.

I would of course still like to find her in order to achieve ‘closure’ but this is unlikely now. If I did manage to find her in another club she would probably spot me first and hide. There would be the trouble of getting help from security at the particular club in apprehending her. Also, many weeks may have passed so it would be difficult proving things and the police would have lost interest. There could not be 100% certainty of proving it was her from the CCTV footage. Only ID card evidence could do this.

It was a hard lesson learnt but if it should ever happen again I certainly won’t worsen the problem by spending so much time and money on something which is difficult to achieve and was highly likely to end in failure.
