Chrome plating

hello ,

Maybe there is here some bikers or ancient cars lovers .   i am in france and for my next visit to pattaya i would like to find a small factory doing chrome plating for my old car bumpers and other small parts .

There must be one place doing that .

It so over expensive in France and most of the time they said they are overbooked , so i just had this idea to make it in thailand .

Or ..... a place that remake-copy  bumpers  with serious quality .   thanks

I'm a classic car nutter in the UK, and over here too the pricing to get stuff chromed is massive.  Must admit I never thought of getting work done in Thailand, so will watch this thread!

The logistics and P&P may be difficult and expensive, unless you are thinking about checking in a car bumper as luggage?  I suppose its not much heavy than a set of golf clubs.....

I too have thought about bringing a large suitcase of old Cadillac parts to Pattaya/Bangkok for chroming. It would have to be triple plating (copper, nickel, chrome). From experience, I suggest giving any chrome shop a test piece before committing your whole batch of parts. Thanks for this thread.

hello ,   steeve1956 ; where is that company ? in pattaya ?

fortunatly my bumpers are "short" an easy to pack in a big suitcase .  But it is worth doing essentially for all the others small parts , door handles , decorations ...

About 30 seconds with Mr. Google got this Facebook business page link, rather than just a screenshot of the business page.

https://www.facebook.com/CC.colors.chrome

A clickable location map is on their business page.

The last post was September 01, so still in business, but everything looks to be in Thai. There are some very nice photos on the page.

I would contact the restoration shop Car Kolor in Sattahip and see who they recommend.  Their work seems a bit above standard Thai restorations.

Hello ,

like car painting the most expensive thing about re-chrome is the preparation before chroming , it can be long and need "know how"  .

i  wait for that answer to your email nanni 2011 .

i am afraid that most of those shops are just more in painting with nice effects  than re-chroming , not sure it will last very long .

mattmore1965 for the small chrome parts you can try to find a factory that produce door handles or bathroom stuff of high standard  , they are mostly able to chrome all small parts for a "reasonable price"   if they accept you as costumer ,  not that easy .    But that's impossible for a bumper .

For the guy in chonburi : no problem , i speak thai .... are you sure he does real re-chroming ?

At first it looks easy and cheaper but quality is not always the same in thailand .

i found a shop specialised in exhaust parts and bring them an original one (in my suitcase !)  to get a copy in stainless and the result was very poor , couldn't use it .

But sometimes i see nice old cars in thailand and there must be a way .

I contacted Car Kolor in Sattahip via Facebook and he said he knows of a shop that does real triple (copper, nickel, chrome) chrome plating and it is expensive. "expensive" is relative as most of the cost of chrome plating is labor and labor is cheap in LOS, by Western standards. I didn't follow up as my trip was postponed. I also wonder if there will be any import duties on parts brought into LOS for chroming.

i had a conversation with well experienced a panel beater in south thailand , the only places to get a real chrome plating (three stages) are in bangkok .  out of bangkok the best you can find is chrome plating with 2 stages that will look nice at first but not last long .   still no idea about who is still doing that in bangkok . About the prices is should stay cheap compare to europe .  this guy asked about 30.000 for a complete paint on the car that should cost  more than 150.000 in France .  i checked his paint cabine and brandof paint : sikkens , one of the best .
