worldwide lockdowns it seems slow the virus but not stop it. it's sneaky and cheaty and gets in and spreads sooner or later. at some stage you have to go the vaccine route open things up and bite the bullet on case numbers. Australia has gone lockdown rather than vaccinations and it's certain to fail. they are around 15% which is even worse than here.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. But it ain't going to happen. Not this year and maybe not next. Very few politicians anywhere, particularly those in power will openly say that lockdowns aren't working even if they privately believe it. Not all do of course.

Well, the PM did muse a while back about the balance between case numbers and economic devastation (that was the now defunct "it'll be over in 2-3... maybe 4 weeks" thing. Which he then, of course, revised the very next day.) That may not be admitting that "lockdowns" don't work (we're not under "lockdown", btw), but at least he does seem aware that they're destroying the economy as we speak. Better than nothing I s'pose.

That's right.

As was pretty much was known from the start the only way out is vaccines which is why UK, US, China and Russia pumped in serious money into development, approvals and production starting in February 2020.

Old figures.   Australia now about 20% fully vaccinated and a bit over 40% one dose.  Still not great given our economy, standard of living and generally good healthcare system.

Great advice...The hospitals are over capacity, and they are converting hotels into hospitals in the capital.  Even if you did not get sick with Covid, but fell or had a motorcycle or some other kind of accident that required medical care, you would be shit out of luck!
