Almost everything closed, masks required, strict lockdown after 9 pm, yet cases still keep going up?

Why is that?

Great question.   Expect speculations and not answers.   My speculation is simply because the only way to slow down the Delta varient is via draconian lockdown measures.

And speaking of draconian lockdown measures,  I am watching China with much interest.

Factories, work places, people still gathering illegally and then bringing it home to their families. Delta variant is more contagious than chicken pox, the common cold. You usually don't see an effect from lockdowns for up to 3 weeks as well and then weeks after that for it to lower daily infections.

The virus is already much more widespread than the daily case load report in the news - an estimated 6-7 times higher. This translates to many thousand per day in Chonburi and not  "only" 1062 as of today.

https://covid19.healthdata.org/thailand?view=cumulative-deaths&tab=trend

With some many cases, also within households, it is very difficult to stop the virus spreading.

Also, the current number of daily tests in Thailand is unknown. Thus, we do not know the percentage of positive tests.

https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand

Until around July 10th, less than 70 000 tests per day were done. Unless capacity has increased a lot, this would translate into more than 20 percent positive among those tested. Making it very difficult to do reliable contact tracing.

These are the most reliable data I can find. If anyone has more recent and/or reliable data, please inform us!

Excellent question.

Look where the majority of reported case are in Chonburi Province and it means, firstly -

- the clusters are in situations of poorly paid, many immigrants in very close proximity to each other

So it spreads and spreads - even in places like Singapore in similar circumstances and even pre Delta.

But no where in the world has yet come to grips with Delta - even countries with high levels of vaccination - so its not just Thailand. But it is fucking Thailand every which way and its hard to see a way out atm.

Yes there are those who find a way around the restrictions - but Delta - its ease of spread is the the fucker.

How in the hell do we cope with further virilate mutations....

So why is it >> Delta is the short answer.
