I'm suprised not to find a topic about the new team in pattaya here. Apparantly they bought out a Thai Premier League club and moved it to Pattaya, they will play at a municipal stadium this season (starting pretty soon) but will move in a newly built 20.000 all seater for next season. They already have a clubshop on third road, for more info www.pattayautd.com, there should be an english version soon I am told.

Do you reckon this will be a succes? I think it should be, with all the European expats in town and relative wealth of some of the thais too, I think their home games may be quite the event. The good thing is they play their games at 4 in the afternoon, so plenty of time left for fun and games afterwards.

Trust me, it's paradise. This is where the hungry come to feed.

For mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven't tried before.

So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome.

Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.

Sounds like something I would check out at least once to see how the football culture is in Thailand.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

They should advertise on the board. Or maybve the board could sponsor them.

I'd love to go and watch a game when i'm there and support "my local" team.

If the strips are available in fat bastard size i'll pick one up next trip as well.

There is already a fairly local team in the thai premiership called the Chonburi Sharks. Last season they were runners-up in the league. And the season before they were champions of Thailand.

So Pattaya United will have stiff competition from the Sharks

I hope Pattaya United do well and get plenty of support from the local thai's and also the ex-pat and holidaying farangs.

It's good to see a team named after the city they play in because in the thai league there are to many company teams and also teams representing the various armed forces. This means that the communittees that live local to there ground cannot assiciate with the team. And this means these teams are poorly supported

I've got the home kit and the blue fan shirt already, my friend brought it back for me, shirts are nice. 200 baht for supportersclub membership and you get the tshirt for free, don't really know what the membership gets you.

they even have a club anthem:

that's supposedly only the first leg of the competition, but I'm not sure when the second leg starts, so check back before you leave.

They played their first game today, 1-1 draw, talked to my guy on the scene, about 2000 attendance, which isn't bad for a first game... Had a goal wrongfully disallowed for off-side, better luck next time.
