I didn't realize Ko Lipe was such a small island, shaped like a boomerang, it's only about 3 km long and 2 km wide.  You can get anywhere by walking, which is good because there are very few vehicles except for motorcycles, and most of those seem to have sidecars.  Ko Lipe is home to about 800 residents, including 500 Sea Gypsies (Chao Ley), who originally settled the island.  It was a two hour speedboat ride from Pac Barra Pier near Satun.

There are three main beaches: Sunrise Beach on the east coast, Sunset Beach on the northwest, and Pattaya Beach on the southern shore.  Naturally, I stayed at Pattaya Beach, at the Akira Resort.  Room rate with direct pool access was 5,000 baht.

The resort featured three huge pools, the main one in front had a swim up bar.

They put me into the back of the resort.  Booking a pool access room is risky because you could have a family with screaming kids for neighbors, but I had no neighbors.  I had the entire 32 room unit all to myself, including the 60 meter pool.

I set-up my own swim-up bar.

The room was fine.

Despite a limited number of guests, they still had a buffet breakfast.

I had breakfast at the beach.

For dinner, I walked Pattaya Beach over to Walking Street, which dissects the island.

So where was Palace A-GoGo?  No hab!  But unlike Phuket, Ko Phi Phi, and Ao Nang most places were open.  Very few customers, but at least they were open.

Seafood restaurants were nearly all empty.

I was the only customer at King Crab Seafood restaurant

In the evening, I walked over to Sunset Beach, a much smaller beach, only about 200 km.

Here are some scenes from Pattaya Beach, I never made it over to Sunrise Beach.

At night, they had fire shows on the beach

I really enjoyed my visit to Ko Lipe and would like to visit again, maybe try a scuba dive.

Working hard to support poor Issan families, by shagging as many bar girls as I possibly can.

When did you go? Were all the bars open especially the Reggae home bar?

It's just my opinion.

I went in November, just before the second wave.  Nobody was wearing a mask but, of course, the island is geographically isolated.  No one was wearing a mask on Ko Phi Phi either, but there wasn't a big risk then.  I drank at the resort during 2-for-1 happy hour as most bars were closed.

But most shops and restaurants were open, just not the 490 baht all-u-can-eat seafood place.

You do get around. Thanks for your posts on the resorts around Thailand. I'm using them as food for thought for future trips.

Thanks so much for posting and for your response. Looks like a great place to chill out.
