Sofitel Hotel Review

I was curious to try this hotel, I had lived at the Trendy Condo around the corner for 7 years.  Except for the Hyatt Regency, it's the newest upscale hotel in lower Sukhumvit, located on the north side between Soi 13 and Soi 15.  I paid 2450, including breakfast.

 

 

The room was very comfortable, I could use my Apple Music subscription via bluetooth on the stereo.

 

 

The Bathroom had a separate walk-in shower, really liked the bathrobes.

 

 

There were some great views of the neighborhood from my 21st floor window.

 

 

I brought my own whisky

 

 

One thing I really liked about the room was the windowed wall between bedroom and bathroom so you could soak in the tub while watching TV.  There was even a separate speaker and volume control in the bathroom.  However, I wasn't impressed with the choice of channels and mostly watched Fashion TV and EuroNews.  The selection for movies was much better at the JW Marriott.

 

 

Like the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, there is direct access to the BTS from the third floor.

 

 

The hotel is conveniently close to Thermae Coffeeshop

 

 

Breakfast was buffet on the weekend and ala carte during the week when there were fewer guests, but you could order as much as you wanted.

 

 

They had some funky artwork on display in the hotel.

 

 

There's a Belgian rooftop restaurant on the 32nd floor with spectacular views of the area.  Quite expensive however, as you can imagine.

 

 

I recommend this hotel if you're staying in lower Sukhumvit.

I was in Bangkok for some shopping last week and stayed at the Sofitel.

 

 

 

 

They gave me a corner room on the 25th floor.

 

 

 

 

Separate bathtub and walk-in shower

 

 

 

 

I brought my own Liquid refreshment

 

 

 

 

Lots of great views of lower Sukhumvit.  Here you can see the Asoke BTS station on the far left.

 

 

 

 

That's the Hyatt Regency on the right and Nana BTS below.

 

 

 

You could even see the Chao Pharaya River in the distance.

 

 

 

Breakfast alternated between buffet and ala carte, depending on how many guests were registered.  Here is smoked salmon eggs benedict with bacon, mushrooms, mixed nuts, imported cheese, dark rye,  passion fruit, dried fruits, fresh juice, and coffee.  What a way to start the day!

 

 

 

 

I tried room service this time, available 24 hours.  I had Khao Soi.  Instead of the usual chicken drumstick, they use Boston lobster.

 

 

 

 

I checked out the pool this time, outdoors on the 11th floor.  Not as nice as at the Hyatt Regency and Sheraton Grande, but I like this hotel better.  I didn't get a chance to try the gym, though.

 

 

 

 

I enjoyed hanging out in the lobby for afternoon tea.

 

 

 

 

The direct access to the BTS Skywalk on the third floor is very useful, especially if it's raining.  You can walk all the way to Terminal 21 and not get wet. 

 

 

 

 

I have to return to Bangkok for my second covid jab later this month.  I'll be staying at the Sofitel once again.

I tried Belga, the Belgian Rooftop restaurant on the 34th floor.  They have both indoor and outdoor seating.  Nice views of lower Sukhumvit.

 

 

I ordered baked cod, it was expensive.

The hotel pleasantly surprised me with a piece of cake on my birthday.  I supplied the Bourbon.

 

 

I expect room rates will be rising now with the return of international tourism.

I had a Hotel room with a glass separating the tub and the bed.  it's fun and allows you to have a nice view of your girl one night.  or watch/spy while you take a shower ...

This hotel has been on my radar for a while. I have quite a bit of points and benefits with the Hilton brand and ecosystem, but it's always nice to try something new.

I think you'll find the ecosystem in and around the Sofitel to be quite welcoming.

Guest friendly from all reports I've read. Perfect when Thermae was open.

Wonderful review! I have been eyeing this hotel for my potential stay out there in Bangkok. I definitely like the location and convenience of said location. 😀

Where do you guys buy your bottles of alcohol? What are prices normally like for the typical bottle of Jack Daniels?
