Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Review

I hadn't stayed at this hotel for 17 years, so I thought I'd check it out again.  Room was good standard, slightly larger and better than than the Royal Orchid Sheraton, but the room rate was 500 baht more.

View wasn't nearly as good, however.  They put me in the back, looking south.

I would have preferred being in the front, this view of Terminal 21 while waiting for the elevator.

Bathroom was nice, with separate walk-in shower.  Staff was well trained, every time I came back to my room all my electronic cables were neatly coiled.

Bars were closed so I went to the grocery store in the basement of Terminal 21 for a little whisky.

Like the Sofitel, the hotel has direct access to the BTS.

I enjoyed the pool there, it had a strange L shape which made it awkward swimming, but I liked the tropical motif.

The breakfast was exceptional, with a ham carving station and employees coming around with refills of fresh orange juice.  I thought it was very well priced at 300++.

Other than breakfast, I didn't have any other meals at the hotel, preferring El Gaucho Argentine Steakhouse on Soi 19 next to Terminal 21.  Besides great steaks, I enjoy eating there because I shagged a lot of girls upstairs when the building was occupied by City Lodge hotel.

That is a very nice property.  I have stayed there a few times.  Great location for Soi Cowboy bar fines...but who knows how long before those days return.

Nice to see the pictures - I've stayed at this hotel most of the times I've been in Bangkok.

The pool is mostly shallow and great for teaching ladies to swim. Or take them to the outdoor jacuzzi which can be very pleasant in many ways.

If you stay at the business floor you get access to a smaller breakfast room, and an exceptional lounge where I've spent many hours working.

The views from the other side of the building is better - you can even see Soi Cowboy.

Ladies are best brought in from the basement floor, very discreet and never a question asked.

Very nice review. I have never stayed there, but I will definitely try it in the future.

I love El Gaucho Argentine Steakhouse too.  I have brought many non-P4P girls to this steakhouse and it always pays off by the end of the night.

I know it would less expensive to pay for it, but part of the fun about eating in a great steakhouse is the share it with someone.  It is even more fun if they have never been there before.

  • 3 months later...

I was in town for a covid jab, so booked the Sheraton Grande again.  It was excellent value at just under 2,000 baht, excluding breakfast.

They gave me a front room this time, with a view of Terminal 21, the Westin, and El Gaucho Argentinian Steakhouse.

The pool was closed per covid restrictions but they let the guests hang around in the garden.  They also served free coffee in the lobby, it was nice to escape from the room with the 9 PM curfew.  The hotel manager came by and introduced himself.

The skywalk access was very convenient for going over to Topps for some Liquid refreshment, but they were sold out of Old Number 7.

In-room breakfast was available for 500 baht if you applied the daily 300 baht discount vouchers they gave you.  That's still expensive for breakfast, so I only ordered once. There was some choice and the smoked salmon eggs Benedict was very good.

For dinner I ordered out for delivery from Happy Panda, as far as I know the only place in Thailand to get American-style Chinese food.  The owner is from Minneapolis and he's really a great guy.  Here's the lemon chicken and sweet-sour shrimp combo box, and it only took 15 minutes for my food to arrive.

For nostalgia, here's a photo I took of the Asoke Intersection in 1992 from the pedestrian overpass by the Shell station on Soi 23, looking west towards Nana Plaza.

You'll notice Times Square on the left and the Westin hotel on the right but the Sheraton Grande wasn't built until a few years later.

I also spent time at the Hyatt Regency and Banyan Tree.  I'll add reviews of those fine hotels.  Having to spend so much time in the room, makes sense to stay at nice places, especially as the rates will probably never be this low, otherwise I would have been in the GoGo bars using my money on bar fines and short times.

I just learned a new thai word: mú-tí-dtaa (taking delight in the happiness of others). If I hadn't, I might have been a little bit envious..! :) Countless memories from there. Thanks for posting.
