Is any of you guys using "Bolt application" for booking transport around  Pattaya/Jomtien?

It's seen to be very reasonable priced.

Anyone know how to order a pick up truck on BOLT?

Your only options are whats in the Bolt app. If you for some reason need to transport a load of goods, there are private, reasonable companies or hire a baht bus

Probably the only think I can think of that is an improvement on pre Covid times is Bolt. Amazing service. There's no haggle or worry about the price, no getting ripped off and the drivers show up super fast. So much better and cheaper than Grab, which is a rort.

Yes use it often as necessary, depending on location wait is most always less than 5 minutes

Am trying to convince other expats that it is much nicer to take a lady to 3-mermaids or Cabbages and Condoms in a nice Bolt taxi sitting in back together with the air conditioning on.  Also it helps the local economy by hiring hard working drivers instead of the mafia taxi and motorbike mafia who sit on their bums 14 hours a day...."keeping an eye" on things

Too many senior macho guys here who have to ride in the solar wind on their overpriced motobikes made in Japan, polluting the air with their exhaust and noise,  showing off thier future skin cancer tans and super macho tattoos as well as showing off their sexy young girlfriends  $$$... T.I.T. 🤣

Bolt in Pattaya is awesome: quick and inexpensive, I used it quite often on a recent visit.  Bolt in Bangkok is still reasonably priced, but not as readily available as it is in Pattaya, easier to just grab a cab off the street sometimes.

Sorry to reveal my stupidity ... I try to hide it ...  but I have some serious muppet questions about Bolt.

I have never used any such App .. I am near the nightlife and shops now but about to move out to wildest Wong Amat.

2 miles off baht bus routes.

I got the App .. seems simple connected to my condo Wi Fi.

But out in the street .. I have to turn on phone connection data I assume ?  That seriously eats up the baht on my pay as you go phone.  Well ... only 50 baht a day. I guess you turn data off on non Bolt use days.

I just have never heard anyone discuss.  50 baht a day peanuts I know .. till you forget to switch it off.  I once turned it on to see what the ferk it added to my exciting life ha ha.  Just wiped out my credit in a week when normally it would last months.  I use LINE for calls.

Do I need to get a proper bill method .. so I can just leave it on ?  Or switch data on to call the Bolt taxi. Switch it off when it arrives or just make sure data is off later that day (as 50 baht a day AIS tell me)

Yes, if you are not connected to a wifi, you will need to turn on your mobile data if you want to use Bolt or the internet.

Not sure what the pay as you go phone setup is, but 50 baht a day seems low for anybody, are you sure that's not 50 baht a day with phone calls?

Almost everybody I know gets unlimited data plan or 2gb+ data

How much are you paying for a month? An unlimited data plan from True is about 300 to 350 baht a month.

50 baht a day after switching on data.

I made no calls and went to see AIS asking why the ferk had my credit had gone.  He looked at me aghast .. obviously thinking I was not very bright.

If I made no calls my credit stayed as was .. I would add small amounts .. 20 or 50 baht a time so it would not time expire.

Thanks for reply.  I will go to a AIS shop to see what my options are. Meanwhile just switch data on and off as required.

What is it with cheap charlies on here who are too tight to pay a few hundred baht for unlimited data on a tourist sim?  It’s not 2010 anymore, it’s not even expensive.

I think it has to do with past outcome when prices were high, limits that ran out when one posted a single pic and currencies with too many zeroes.

Remember when hotels charged a bomb for a phone call. There are people scarred for life and will not touch the phone, Of course their own mobile became handy.

Thats why forums like these are handy.

My worry is the discussion on 10 Bhat busses.

Ha ha.

I agree.  I just had no idea there was such a thing ( as unlimited data ).  I guess that was what I was asking.

I only ever have used data on WIFI.  Never needed to do on a phone network till now.

In fact mucho publicity years ago was warning to never do it. I guess after 15 years here I should have upped my plan to getting a bill.

Good info though.   Thanks.

(Not a case of cheeeeep charleeeee ... more a case that I never needed data till now, and did not understand .. I did say I knew it was a stupid / muppet question.  Trying to avoid 7/11 visits to pay, every other day).

If you are on postpaid, you can get unlimited internet with AIS 10 Mbps for around 299 a month 50 mins calling.

But if you want truly unlimited high speed internet, try finnmobile. They used to be LINE mobile, and they run on DTAC. If you transfer your number over, they will give you unlimited 100 Mbps data and unlimited calling for 399/month https://finnmobile.io/en/promotions normally 749 a month.

If you don't need the 100 Mbps, you can go to 100 GB at high speed for 329 a month. It has the option to toggle in their app to 10 Mbps unlimited as well - comes with 600 mins of calling. https://finnmobile.io/en/packages

I use it and it works well. In high density areas (LK Metro/Treetown in the evening), the speeds are slow, but you still get data. Most places have wifi as well to keep you connected.

Wow.  Someone helpful ... and not a piss taking keyboard warrior.

That AIS plan is what I need. I am with them, albeit on pay as you go.

I was holding off going to see them till I know my new address.  But was anxious for some friendly advice meanwhile.

I was not even sure I needed to switch data on, on my phone. No idea how I thought it worked. GPS magic.

Thanks again.

Yes you definitely need data on to use Bolt, many times the drivers will try and call you even when you give them the exact address+pin of where you're standing and that all uses data since calls are made through the app and your real number is never exposed I believe. If you're on AIS prepaid, try downloading their app and you can browse all the plans/packages they have without having to go there. I've never needed to once visit a DTAC shop since registering my SIM.

You get much better plans on post paid. I had called in to transfer my number to finn, and they halved my bill and gave me unlimited 10 Mbps which I just tested and got 58.7 Mbps down, and 43.5 up. I signed up with finn on a second phone that I use as a hotspot when I am in hotels or in a vehicle.

Looking at the unlimited prices being quoted on here I take it this deal sucks for me to get in the airport? only coming back for 3 weeks, I’m sure before covid the AIS sim I used to get at arrival was about 600b. Though It wasn’t 5g then

Wow, this is expensive. I bought a 90 day sim at the airport from DTAC for 899 baht.

It is unlimited but max speed up to 60 Gb per month, slower after that. I've used it on my previous trip and it was good for me so just bought it again couple days ago.

in airport: i always buy dtac tourist offers. its 549 or 599 for 30 days 30gb unlimited speed.

if you stay there long term, i suggest a 3 month or 12 month card. 3 month is 600.- thb for unlimited data at 10mbps (which is enough for the majority of use cases) or ~1500 for 12 months. phone calls are on top of that (but it's like 1thb per minute).

What I do is get a Dtac tourist Sim.

I pump a couple of hundred baht on it and get the expiry date jacked up well past my next trip date . This can be done at 20 baht a hit using a Debit card whilst sitting on the shitter contemplating using the bin gun if you want or you can go to 7-11 and do it there

When I get to Swampy to depart LoS I get on the Airport Wifi and once I do this I cancel the package I was on immediately

When I get back to Farangland the Sim gets stored safely away with passport etc.

When I am flying over next trip I take out my Farangland Sim and put in the Thai DTAC Sim. As soon as the plane gets to about 1500 metres or so as you are circling Swampy you will get internet signal on DTAC

At this time you don't have a package so DTAC is charging you like a wounded bull. As soon as the Internet signal is received it is straight to the DTAC app and signing up for a package

Thats how you keep the Sim Card ticking over and saves you having to fuck around getting a new one at the airport and you keep the same number every trip

    • For those that don't know, I did Friday meetings before many years ago,  I feel like we are missing a regular meeting for members,  I am aware guys meet at PA affiliated bars. But I want to start meeting people again, I'm inviting the guys following my YouTube also.

The meetings is a chance to get to meet each other,  I plan to be at every meeting, I also have Dean from Dive bar that has offered to help out with a crawl after.
The meetings will be  Monday  6 pm - 8 pm each week.  (The improvised bar crawl will commence at 8 p.m.  Dean will make his own plans for that.)

Due to low numbers of people in town, I will start the meetings in our bars to help our girls and managers, please check back often incase things are changed.  I will be sharing the love around town later, but Soi 6 is first on my list (including bars that are friendly competition)
If bar owners want us to have a meeting at their bar,  they need to have a minimum of 10 girls.  I'm not dragging people to empty bars for favours.
Please help us invite other members, it takes a while to get momentum.
Monday 6 pm - 8pm  (then bar crawl after)
      21st March - Playpen Soi 6
28th March - Night wish bar Soi 6
4th April - Toy Box bar Soi 6
      11th April - Repent Soi 6
18th April - where angels play Soi 6
25th April -  (next bar we have open)

2nd May - (next bar we have open)
      9th May - Cooters bar soi 6
16th May - Hot shots bar Soi 6
23rd May - (next bar we have open)
      30th of May - Lust soi 6
      6th of June - Illuzion

I look forward to meeting people again.
