Hi everyone. I'm hoping to take up golf ( in Pattaya )  towards the end of next month. Could anyone please enlighten me if the golf courses are still open.

Are there many different groups or societies to play rounds with as well.

Could someone please reccomend a good instructer as well. I've only ever played a couple of rounds in my life.

Many thanks

All the Chonburi and Rayong courses are now open and lockers/showers again in last couple of days.

Have a look on the PSC web site at prices and bar groups to play golf with - https://pattayasports.org/sports/golf/

Instructors I would recommend here include Andrew who teaches at Phoenix driving range - presuming he is still here. Tyrone Rengli at TPR based at Siam now with prices to match........

A guy I know with a UK 8 handicap has had lessons from a Thai guy at 3rd Road driving range and thought he was ok - and significantly cheaper than the other 2 above.

Travellers Rest in Soi Lengkee play nearly day, but if your a beginner get some lessons in, think there’s a guy around Soi Buakhio area has an indoor range or go up to range up 3rd Road they’ll probably have a pro to help you.

Dont play till your confident these courses can be intimidating could put you off golf for life, also think of your playing partners if your scuffing 10 yards every shot.

The golf courses are open and they are very cheap at the moment. An old friend out there was saying 1000baht a round including cart just to attract customers.

I can't help with a teraching pro I'm afraid.

One thing you can do is look at google earth at the courses and pick out the ones with less water and less bunkers. Hopefully those courses will be more enjoyable for a beginner.

Mike at the driving range on 3rd road near Pattaya Nua, is very good.

Thanks very much Kanga, there looks to be some good information on the PSC website. I'll check out the prices for the instructors as well

Thanks for the info , I think I'll definitely need some lessons and practice first.

I'll second that need to take lessons and practicing before anything else.  Then you could move onto some entry level courses to play.  Possibilities like the 9 hole par 3 course at Asia Pattaya hotel or the 9 hole Navy course.  If you're on the course and you find your pace of play is holding up groups behind you, have the courtesy to have them play through.  The vast majority of golf societies play competition golf with entry fees.  For the most part they will not be welcoming to someone new to the game joining them.

Golf is a lifelong process and quick results are unlikely.  If during the time you're learning, you feel like you'll continue then make sure to be fit in a set of golf clubs that are suitable for your playing ability.  The fit I talk about(unless you're unusually tall or short) is something that is initially forgiving.  Same as lessons from a professional, talk to a professional about being set up with a proper club set where they have various options to chose from.

the driving range on 3rd rd is pretty good also call in to links hotel on bua khao and talk to the guys there they will help you.

Has anyone tried golf hub? As far as lessons / fittings?
