I often wondered how the ones in Pattaya felt about all the free food given out last time.

I imagine it must have put a lot of them out of business.

I have no doubts it hurt some of their bottom lines but from what I saw of the people lined up, both in person and online, while some looked like they were just taking advantage of a free meal (especially the few foreigners I saw in line) a lot looked in pretty rough shape and probably could not afford to buy much from vendors anyway.

Pretty shocked a food vendor in Jomtien was making 3000 baht a day (according to this article) selling Som Tum in Jomtien. Can't imagine there's too much overhead costs for doing that too but I guess the hours are long.
