My stepbrother. I am in shock.
It is not suicide. Something strange must have happened.

Talked with police just minutes ago and explained to them: He was happy. Had no money issues. No girlfriend issues. No health issues.

Well... he loved Thailand and Pattaya/Jomtien. After I moved to Pattaya, he visited me and fell in love with the place and moved from Sweden to TH.  Everyone who knew him, knows that it is my fault that he was in Thailand.

---
According to police they have notified his relative in Sweden.
Lets hope we can fly home his body and burry him with his beloved mom.  Life is hard and not always the good way,

Sorry for your loss.

It seems to be too common an event.

Sorry for your loss.RIP

Talked 9 hours last night with people in Pattaya/Jomtien. Today 3 hours. Indirect with the police and rumour mills. Officially this is a suicide. I know it wasn't a suicide.  If he wanted to leap out of a windows he could do it from his own condo at 46 floor. Why travel 3 kilometers. Go to floor 8 and jump out.   But officially: " he took tablets. Jumped out of balcony".
I asked the police for receipts or bottles of the tablets.  Did not exist.

I therefore contacted Swedish police today and reported a murder. Talked with them for hours and explained why its not suicide and who probably killed him. I explained all the strange circumstances. He had never taken drugs. Had no illnesses. No money issues. He talked to me that he lived his dream life in Thailand. So why would he suddenly travel from his condo at almost the end of Jomtien Beach and go to Aqua and jump out?  Why did the police check the wrong floor CCTV footage. They did not find anything, but they checked floor 9 footage, not 8.

And here comes Swedish bureaucracy. I cant get any papers in this case since I am just a steph brother.  I asked the police: Will his father at least get these papers since he is the only living relative? No. Since he was an adult. He will get the papers. So they will send the papers to a dead/murdered person.

Thanks all for the kind words.

And please take care. I talked often with him about the strange occurrence of how many farrang dies by suicide. The thing that really haunts me is how afraid he was about heights. His nightmares consistent seeing people jumping out during the 9/11 attack.  He talked to me how horrific that must have been.

Shawn80. I am very sorry for your loss. This reads like a terrible tragedy . Is there any point in going to a reputable solicitor in Pattaya ?

This is horrible. Did the person he go visit owe him money and he was coming to collect or something? It's strange the friend would say it was about money troubles and then even the police doubted his story. I'd imagine the police could be coerced into looking further into things. Makes me glad that I mostly keep to myself in Pattaya since it seems like it's so easy to get away with murder.

My condolences Shawn. It does sound suss indeed. The part that is most suspect is the part where you mention the 8th floor vs the 42nd floor of his own condo. Really suspect. Keep safe everyone.

I'm sorry for your loss @Shawn80

It does seems like a private lawyer or detective might be your only chance at getting some real answers, as the police seems uninterested and happy to chalk it up to farang-doing-drugs. Will there be an independent autopsy to corroborate this? I'm sorry if I come off as prying, just trying to give you some ideas. Good luck and my best wishes to you and your family.

In the Philippines, in a case of death, even in a suspicious case where foul play is suspected (which officially this case is not), the police will not investigate. They will write up a report, and that's about it.

Unless:

- the person killed was someone important

- there is a huge media uproar

- someone pays the expenses of the investigation of the police

Is it a similar situation here?

Pretty much.

Exactly the same except for your third point where expenses would be expected and still sweet FA would be investigated.

Absolutely shocking mate, it’s a tragedy you seemingly can’t get justice for your step brother. As you live there you’ll know money talks, if you have some you can commit to then keep the pressure on the BIB, offer what you can to keep them involved and investigating.

In this case the papers will go to his estate. Make sure the rent on his place is paid so that you can continue to receive mail at his address, or if he owned a condo have his next of kin get the mailbox key.

Get a qualified lawyer to handle his estate, preferably a firm run by a Westerner, without links to Pattaya. Toss his room and look for a safe deposit box key, a will, etc.

I'm not your savior, I'm just a naughty boy.

Sorry about your loss Shawn ? Does he own the condo ? Have a live in girlfriend ? Sorry if that was already been said .. RIP .  I know a friend whose his close friend was slowly poisoned to death , Pattaya hospital saying died from multiple organ failure , he owned a house just outside Pattaya , no investigation by police , body send to Dublin hospital for second opinion, said poison to death . His Brother went back to Pattaya and visit police with Dublin hospital report , still no investigation, like above said , he is somebody not very important. Brother went to dead man solicitor , saw hospital report , changed the will , supposedly go to his girlfriend who was a suspect . Brother sold house quickly . Happened nearly 10 years ago ..  My golden rule in Thailand is never let them Know that you owned a condo/house and a huge  bank account .

This is great advice.

Make sure that you keep a low profile.   Particularly a very low financial profile.

If you are worth something to someone here, make sure they believe that you are worth something alive and nothing dead.

You've heard of life insurance policies, well think of this as a death insurance policy.

Gaee lao. mai law doi. Mai ben rai, mee daang!
