I do not think he will get a lot of sympathy from the police and rightly so .

Very irresponsible , to carry his valuables with him and leave them unprotected on a beach .  Not to mention, risking a swim in the Pattaya sea.

In a perfect world, you could leave anything you wanted to on the ground and no one would touch it.  But we have locks and PINs and security cameras for a reason, a 45 year old man should know better.

I used to wonder what those fishermen were doing on the shoreline there. Never ever saw one bring in a fish, not once. All makes sense now!
